Overview

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a business such as finance, Economics, or related field.
  • An advanced degree or industry certification such as the CFA or CAIA is a strong plus.
  • Experience as a consultant having worked on similar projects with one of the major consulting firms globally.
  • Ideally have the practical experience with large asset managers focusing on the pension and/or asset management.
  • Experience with creating and building new recommendations around governance practices within the pension and/or asset management industry.
  • A minimum of 15 years of extensive experience and understanding of global pension practices.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, with proven track record in delivering recommendations related to pension and/or asset management industry best practices.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Result of Service

Requirements Gathering and Documentation: • Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather and document project requirements. Governance Enhancement Recommendations: • Assist the Chief Operating Officer, Senior Management team, and Business Applications and Data Analytics and Enterprise Transformation Office teams in analyzing existing governance structures related to OIM. • Provide recommendations for enhancements to strengthen and institutionalize committee structures and practices, aligning them with industry best practices. Project Schedule Management: • Develop and monitor a project completion schedule, effectively allocating resources to project activities. Alternate Strategies: • Propose alternate strategies in case of differing opinions within the team. Post-Implementation Reviews: • Conduct post-implementation reviews to incorporate lessons learned from the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages a $90+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. OIM's staff are all based in New York but come from over 30 countries. For more information please visit OIM's website at https://oim.unjspf.org/. This position is located in the Data Analysis and Business Applications Team of OIM. The consultant will report to the Business Applications IT Project Manager at the Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) and work under his overall guidance. Through this reporting arrangement, the contractor will implement the deliverables described in this Terms of Reference (TOR) in consultation with the IT Project Manager.

Qualifications/special skills

A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience as a consultant having worked on similar projects with one of the major consulting firms globally. Ideally have the practical experience with large asset managers focusing on the pension and/or asset management. Experience as a consultant as it relates to creating and building new recommendations around governance practices within the pension and/or asset management industry. A minimum of 15 years of extensive experience and understanding of global pension practices. A minimum of 15 years of experience, with proven track record in delivering recommendations related to pension and/or asset management industry best practices. A strong track record of real experience with similar projects, showing detailed process, analysis and actual implementation timeline and success.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
