UN Women was established in 2010 with a mission of delivering programmes, policies and standards which uphold women’s human rights and ensure that every woman and girl lives up to her full potential. UN Women's triple mandate encompasses normative support, UN system coordination, and operational activities, all working together to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.

The focus of this Online Volunteering assignment is to contribute to UN Women Nepal's initiative in promoting the annual "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" campaign. This international campaign spans from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day. The campaign aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls by raising awareness, advocating for policy changes, encouraging investments in prevention mechanisms, and fostering a safer environment.

Online Volunteers will be actively involved in conceptualizing, creating, and managing communication content for the campaign, emphasizing the theme "Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls." They will work in close collaboration with UN Women Nepal’s Communication Team, engage with relevant stakeholders, and contribute to content creation, including articles, blogs, human-interest stories, and more.

Task description

Under the delegated authority and direct supervision of the Communication Officer, the Online Volunteer for Communications will undertake the following tasks:

Social Media Campaign Execution: - Collaborate with UN Women Nepal and relevant stakeholders to execute a comprehensive social media campaign for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. - Develop engaging and innovative content aligned with the campaign's theme "Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls."

Content Creation: - Produce high-quality written content in English and Nepali, including web articles, blogs, human-interest stories, and other communication materials as required.

File Management and Documentation: - Maintain organized files and databases related to the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

Innovative Contribution: - Bring creative and innovative ideas to the table for content creation and campaign engagement, in line with the campaign's objectives.

The selected Online Volunteers will be assigned with one of the abovementioned tasks.

The Online Volunteers for Communications and Digital Campaign support will play a vital role in engaging the audience and advocating for the prevention of violence against women and girls through effective communication strategies and content creation.

During the online assignment, Online Volunteers are expected to deliver the following results and outputs: - Execution of social media campaign for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
- Impactful communication materials in English and Nepali, including web articles, blogs, human-interest stories, and other relevant content. - Files and databases related to the 16 Days of Activism campaign. - Selection of impactful photos for UN Women's Flicker library. - Creative and innovative ideas brought to the content creation process, contributing to the campaign's engagement and impact.

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to produce high-quality written content.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for content creation, and social media management.
  • Knowledge of gender equality, women's empowerment, and violence against women and girls.
  • Experience in fact-checking, data verification, and conducting interviews to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain organized files and databases.
  • Professional work experience in communications, content creation, journalism, public relations, or a related field will be an asset.
