The salary for this job should be between 128,723 USD and 165,961 USD.

As the Nutrition Specialist, you will work to strengthen policies and programmes aiming to prevent childhood overweight and obesity in the East Asia & Pacific Region. In this role, you will therefore get to work on one of the major public health challenges throughout the East Asia & Pacific Region, given that the number of children 5-19 years old living with overweight has trebled in the last two decade, such that nearly 90 million children live with overweight in the region today.

How can you make a difference?

As Nutrition Specialist, you will be a key member of the Nutrition Section in the UNICEF East Asia Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand. You will be responsible for providing authoritative technical guidance and management support to UNICEF’s work throughout the East Asia & Pacific region to create healthier food environments. In particular, you will support regulatory actions in the areas of food marketing, food labeling, food reformulation, fiscal measures, and school food and nutrition environments. Furthermore, you will manage programmes to improve the nutrition of school-age children and adolescents. You will report to the Regional Nutrition Adviser and will support him in managing the section, contributing to innovation and knowledge management.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field.
• A minimum of eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant and child health/nutrition care. Professional experience must include programme development in the prevention of overweight and obesity as well as the nutrition of school-age children and adolescents
• Experience in nutrition programme development and management in a UN system agency or organization is an asset
• Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language in East Asia & Pacific is an asset.
