Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Nutrition Specialist will be under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Yemen, general supervision of Head of Programs and under the technical and direct supervision of the Nutrition and Food Systems Officer.

Technical Focus

Nutrition Specialist will provide technical leadership to FAO Yemen’s work on Nutrition capacity building, value chain development and promotion of household food production, consumption of healthy diets and diet diversification.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Support the Nutrition Sensitive Programming and Food Systems agenda in FAO Yemen in line with country priorities, FAOs Global Strategic Frameworks and FAO Country Programming Framework to build sustainable food systems that support healthy diets, positive nutrition outcomes and the realization of the SDGs. • Support in provision of technical guidance on FAO nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems policies and programmes and ensure nutrition mainstreaming and integration in country programmes and projects and effective technical performance of nutrition and food systems approaches. • Prepare and develop all nutrition sensitive agriculture related training materials tailored to the context of Yemen and using the existing FAO training materials in consultation with Nutrition officer and other technical units. • Support the training and capacity building of FAO Yemen staff, partners, and government on nutrition sensitive agriculture programming and food systems transformation. • Technically evaluate the proposals and offers submitted by SPs/bidders in response to the Request For Proposals/Invitation For Bid in coordination with the FAO procurement unit. • Prepare the Letter of Agreements (LOAs) and all related documents between FAO and the selected implementing partners. • Contribute to the development of FAO Yemen nutrition projects and activities, plan, and processes, ensuring alignment with wider FAO nutrition policies and guidance. • Follow-up on the delivery of nutrition related inputs (seeds & poultry) in coordination with the agriculture, livestock, and procurement units. • Support the implementation of high-quality assessments including nutrition related KAP surveys in coordination with the TPM agency and FAO M&E unit. • Prepare all the required documents for the implementation of the nutrition sensitive agriculture ToT trainings including the budgets, clearances, training materials (presentations, banners, training manuals, etc.) and training reports. • Promote Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) (Including nutrition education) in FAOYE program interventions at community level, collaborate with program units, procurement, finance, and other units to ensure effective advocacy, design, and delivery of FAO nutrition sensitive programs including setting up, training and supporting producer groups/cooperatives and other associations or enterprise groups along the key value chains, • Support monitoring and evaluation of nutrition interventions in nutrition sensitive programs and conduct field visits to ensure effective collaboration, timeliness, and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery. • Support documentation of good practices across different nutrition sensitive projects and keeps copies of all files and documents in organized and accessible folders in the unit’s shared folders. • Participate in the nutrition cluster meetings and other relevant meetings and workshops as requested by the supervisor. • Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in nutrition, nutrition policy, Public Health, Dietetics, food studies, food science, food technology, food engineering or other relevant fields. • At least 5 years working experience working on nutrition sensitive agricultural programmes and supporting Nutrition sector in Yemen. • Fluency in English and Arabic is required, and knowledge of other UN languages is an asset. • National of Yemen.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Extensive experience in project management and capacity development in Nutrition, Agriculture, and livestock sector. • Good interpersonal skills will experience in networking with partners at all levels (ministry, NGOs and local community-based organizations). • Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing. • Proficiency in standard computer software
