This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support ongoing large National Integrated Micronutrient and Anthropometric survey (NIMAS) among children, adolescent girls and women of reproductive age by providing technical support in the implementation of the survey together with the implementing partners and in collaboration with other nutrition stakeholders– namely Ministry of Health and Social Development, Institutional Contractor and stakeholders, including development partners (WFP, WHO, USAID, MercyCorps, USAID/Advancing Nutrition);
  • Support the Country Office (CO) on implementation of the Country Programme Document 2018-2022, UNDAF, specifically focus on relevant activities on food security and nutrition;
  • Jointly with Health and Nutrition Officer contribute to support delivery of a comprehensive package of health and nutrition services in alignment with UNICEF nutrition policies and guidance;
  • Assist in collecting and providing nutrition and health related inputs to programme documents, reports and any other studies undertaken within the CO;
  • Support Child Survival and Development Section to prepare communication materials as per need;
  • Support Child Survival and Development Section to manage visit of visitors, missions and representatives from donor and other stakeholders as per need;
  • Assist in ensuring the synergy and collaboration with other units of the CO, with UN agencies, government, development and other relevant partners on food security and nutrition;
  • Assist in building the capacity of the partners to prepare for and respond to food security and nutrition needs.

Experience remark

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in development programme management, monitoring and evaluation
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Knowledge of or experience in nutrition/public health data systems or research is an added advantage.

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.

This assignment is funded by the Government of Norway, therefore only Norwegian nationals are eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates must be between 18 and 29 years of age throughout the assignment.
