This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the WHO Representative in Morocco or his/her designated mandated representative(s), and working closely with respective technical leads at the respective WHO Regional Office and WHO HQ, the UN Volunteer will:

  1. Support the country implementation of WHO global and regional commitments on Nutrition and NCDs prevention and control, and Healthy lifestyle promotion
  2. Coordinate with MOH the development and implementation of national strategies and plans related to Nutrition, NCDs and Healthy lifestyles, and provide the technical support in coordination with the Regional Office.
  3. Support MOH for monitoring and evaluation of national strategies and plans related to Nutrition and NCDs and Healthy lifestyles. Ensure periodic and timely reporting against Global Target indicators and SDGs.
  4. Support multisectoral advocacy for Nutrition, reduction of NCD risk factors and Healthy lifestyles.
  5. Support the implementation of WHO guidance on cancer especially, Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer; and breast and cervical cancer prevention and control.
  6. Disseminate appropriate and relevant scientific, technical, and policy information, sharing experiences of successful practices
  7. dentify opportunities for potential partnerships at local level with UN agencies, international and national NGOs, and participate in related task forces, thematic groups, with a focus on representing WHO relevant programme.
  8. Conduct field missions in the regions and provinces of the country to provide technical support for the implementation of activities relating to Nutrition, NCDs, and healthy lifestyle
  9. Provide regular situation reports on progress, achievements and constraints
  10. Perform any other duty as required by the WHO Representative

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in public health and/or health-related field, from an accredited and recognized academic institution is required, or:
    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;
    • At least 5 years of professional work experience at the national level in public health and health sector coordination.

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Post graduate studies or specialized training in Nutrition, NCD prevention and control, promotion of healthy lifestyle
  • Past experience, developing and promoting collaborative partnerships, is required.
  • Prior relevant work experience in WHO/UN system, health cluster partners, relevant nongovernmental or humanitarian organizations, is desirable.
  • Experience in planning/development, project management, monitoring and evaluation, is desirable.
  • Strong overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, etc.), and office technology equipment;

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

Monitoring and evaluation, Capacity building of non-governmental organizations, Food safety and nutrition

Area of expertise details:

  • In-depth knowledge of public health programmes with focus on prevention and control of NCDs and their major risk factors, health system, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of operational management of health aspects/consequences of humanitarian crises and outbreaks in field settings;
  • Demonstrated skills in proposal and report writing, knowledge of and experience with needs assessments in emergency settings, strategic information analysis and planning and ability to anticipate new trends in the field of public health and take actions accordingly;
  • Capacity building skills for the development, implementation and analysis of technical cooperation programmes and activities, including the development of programmatic indicators.
