ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), Regional Bureaux (RBs), and Headquarters (HQ), and Under the general guidance of the Deputy Country Director and the direct supervision of the Medical Officer the Staff Nurse will provide support tailored to the specific occupational health and safety needs of WfP staff based in Juba and 14 field offices.

JOB PURPOSE

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. the nurse will work closely with the RBN medical officers and staff counsellors to develop and implement critical staff health initiatives including vaccination campaigns, malaria prevention and cardio-vascular risk reduction programmes. In addition. the nurse will administer training in hygiene. occupational safety and personal first aid. S/he will also support medical and casualty response and conduct environmental health and safety assessments of WFP staff and offices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Provide ongoing support and awareness regarding disease prevention strategies with a particular focus on field office staff.
  2. Respond to health-related enquiries and provide appropriate. timely support and guidance.
  3. Refer staff to a higher level of care when and as necessary in consultation with the Medical Officer (MO) or the UN Physician.
  4. Provide psychological first aid to employees and dependents.
  5. Implement staff health training (e.g. ongoing COVID-19 awareness. malaria prevention measures, first aid. COVID precautions. etc).
  6. Support the MO in coordinating with the Regional Medical Officers in case of medical evacuation.
  7. Assess disease outbreaks and other environmental hazards that could impact staff health and WFP's operations. and recommend and implement appropriate public health mitigating measures in consultation with the Medical Officer.
  8. Under the supervision of the MO and in coordination with the Staff Counsellor, assist in implementing health and SOP training with Cooperating Partners concerning aspects of WFP’s operations where WFP staff and CPs could be at risk of infectious diseases such as COVID. cholera and Ebola.
  9. Propose, assess, update SOPs as needed for staff protection particularly for staff in specific higher risk occupational settings (e.g. food distributions. ports and warehouses with casual laborer, drivers and cleaners):
  10. Provide guidance and support to all staff who visit the staff wellness spaces to utilize the self-monitoring blood pressure and BMI machines.
  11. Maintain confidential medical records in line with the global WEL Medical Service procedures.
  12. Under the supervision of the MO, provide recommended staff vaccinations and adapt first aid kits.
  13. Ensure that information on health-related issues is well organized and readily available to all staff.
  14. Other accountabilities, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

Degree in Nursing, Public Health or other healthcare occupation.

Registered to practice as a nurse in South Sudan.

Training related to COVID-19, Ebola or other infectious diseases.

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience in healthcare, UN or NGO deep field experience.

    • Must have field experience in managing Covid-19 response activities in the last two years.
    • Specialised training in Covid-19 reporting and case management protocols desirable.
    • Experience in humanitarian crisis and infectious diseases.
    • Experience in conducting remote outbreaks (COVID-19) related services for deep field areas
    • Experience in providing support on work-related health issues related to outbreaks in particular COVI0-19 including risk factors and solutions.

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of nursing practices and methods gained through relevant technical training and experience.

    • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a range of individuals to provide a high-quality support service.
    • Ability to manage data and independently highlight problems requiring attention.
    • Good communication skills required to give and receive information and work with a variety of individuals.
    • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in medical services.
    • Ability to demonstrate quality client services personality (integrity. passion. compassionate. etc.)

    Language:

    Fluency in English, knowledge of spoken Arabic and a major indigenous language in South Sudan required.
