This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Tamara Abu Sham or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Communication for Development Officer will support the following areas Risk Communication and Community engagement for COVID -19

  • Support to COVID-19 RCCE strategy implementation at the national level through coordination with state teams.
  • Coordinate with the knowledge management team for COVID-19 RCCE through identification, documentation and dissemination of best practices, innovations and positive stories, audio visual products.
  • Support in the development and dissemination of communication products for COVID 19 campaigns.
  • Facilitate analysis of data and reporting for donor supported programmes on RCCE for COVID 19
  • Support in monitoring of all COVID communication related tasks and activities
  • Support knowledge management and documentation for COVID-19 through coordination with UNICEF teams in states and partners.
  • Support state offices with RCCE grants planning, campaigns implementation and reporting.
  • Contribute to grant management through financial reports generation, compilation of input from states and drafting of updates, reports.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

A Master’s Degree in social and behavioral science, sociology anthropology, psychology, political science/ international development, public policy, education, communication, public relations or other related social science field is required.

Experience remark

At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in areas of social development program planning, communications and public advocacy and/or related areas at the international and/or large organization some of which preferably were served in a developing country is required; experience within public health is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;

Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;

Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;

Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

Sound security awareness;

Have affinity with or interest in UNICEF, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
