OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The position is placed in the Category 1: to strengthen vaccine preventable disease control including increasing and maintaining immunization coverage for all EPI vaccines, surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases; to eradicate transmission of wild poliomyelitis; measles elimination rubella /CRS control , introduce new and underutilized vaccine, to transfer technology for the laboratory diagnosis of Vaccine Preventable Diseases and strengthen national regulatory authorities/ BPOM capacity.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent is responsible to carry out the following activities related to immunization and vaccine development to assist national immunization and Surveillance programme of Ministry of Health Indonesia:

1. Strengthen Surveillance for Vaccine Preventable diseases and Facilitate the implementation of national plan for polio eradication in line with global polio eradication and end game strategic plan with special focus on polio legacy.

2. Technical assistance (TA) to update, implement, monitor and evaluate national measles elimination and rubella control to plan.

3. TA to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate integrated surveillance of AFP, Measles/ Rubella, Neonatal Tetanus and Japanese Encephalitis, develop weekly, monthly epidemiological bulletins on VPD surveillance.

4. TA to update VPD surveillance guidelines to ensure alignment with regional and global standards for conducting surveillance for vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs), develop health works surveillance guidelines.

5. TA for CRS surveillance and monitor its trends for developing rubella vaccination policy in high risk areas, higher age groups.

6. TA for integration of VPD surveillance reports from private sectors.

7. Provide TA and coordinate with VPD labs to ensure quality assurance through accreditation & proficiency testing programmes implementation of validated, standard laboratory procedures.

8. Develop sustainability planning to use lessons learn from polio eradication and polio infrastructure for other priority public health interventions in Indonesia.

9. Provide TA to various national expert group committees on VPDs, like National committee for polio eradication, MR, Diphtheria, CRS surveillance.

10. Work closely with other categories in WCO Indonesia towards integrated services, MCH, UHC, and I systems strengthening.

11. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor or WHO Representative.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A university degree in medicine Desirable: Post graduate degree in Epidemiology or public health, or a relevant area

Experience

Essential: At least two years of professional experience in EPI and vaccine preventable disease control Desirable: Experience of work in United Nations and/or other international organization.

Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of communicable disease control, epidemiology, and laboratory diagnosis specifically for VPD diseases.
• Knowledge of clinical and laboratory surveillance.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated willingness and ability to work effectively with national and international colleagues.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at IDR 556,348,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
