OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to help countries, and to coordinate international action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

In the context of the WHO Health Emergencies Incident Management System (IMS) at the country level, the incumbent will support national efforts in response to COVID-19 pandemic, through provision of technical assistance on preparedness for and deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine and maintaining routine immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases surveillance, including overall strengthening of national vaccine-preventable disease control and elimination programmes. The technical assistance is provided within the framework of EU COVID-19 Vaccination and Vaccine Preparedness and Deployment Programme for the Eastern Partnership. Please describe the key duties: --> Provide technical assistance to support deployment of COVID-19 vaccine and vaccination under all the programmatic areas assigned to WHO technical support at the global level --> Provide technical assistance to support maintaining of routine immunization and epidemiological surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases according to country and regional priorities--> Provide technical assistance to support outbreak preparedness and response focused on vaccine-preventable disease targeted under eradication and elimination programs --> Disseminate and facilitate implementation of SAGE and ETAGE recommendations on deployment of COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination and on routine immunization maintenance; --> Provide technical assistance to implement vaccine-product-specific preparedness and readiness activities on critical programmatic areas of COVID-19 vaccination focused first of all on vaccine products approved by WHO under Emergency Use List (EUL)--> Facilitate monitoring of implementation of COVID-19 National Vaccine Deployment and Vaccination Reponses, within the globally established monitoring framework and using globally established tools, as well as submission of the national vaccination coverage data to the “COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor” online platform;--> Contribute to documenting implementation of national COVID-19 vaccine deployment plan to share lessons learnt and to leverage and integrate the achievements to routine immunization programme strengthening;--> Plan and organize field visits, collect and compile data, undertake periodic reviews;--> Support to development of and/or prepare progress reports as requested by country, regional and global structures;--> Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of short-term and long-term plans of National Immunization Programme to operationalize the national and regional immunization programme goals and targets;--> Facilitate country, regional staff and high-level immunization partner missions as appropriate;--> Undertake any other duties which may be assigned according to the needs of the WHO.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in medicine, health management or relevant social/public health areas. Desirable: Advanced University degree (Master's level or above) in public health or epidemiology.

Experience

Essential: At least 2 years' experience in planning and management of public health or immunization programmes; Experience in developing national policy and planning documents in the area of public health, immunization and/or emergency response. Desirable: Work experience with WHO or another international public health organization

Skills

Knowledge of WHO guidance and policies in the area of immunization, emergency response and/or COVID-19 response;Strong analytical skills and ability to review and synthesize information from multiple sources; Excellent Communication, Facilitation and Report-writing skills;Strong interpersonal skills, able to work across cultures and with the capacity to build strong working relationships;Knowledge of Office software applications.

Use of Language Skills

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 35,147 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
