English and Norwegian Speaking Intern to the UNDP Nordic Representation Office in Oslo

As the lead UN development agency, UNDP supports countries in their efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP is present in 170 countries around the world and works to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities. The UNDP Nordic Representation Office is located at the UN City in Copenhagen, with satellite offices in Stockholm, Oslo, and Helsinki. Together we work to distribute knowledge about UNDP’s work in the Nordic countries as well as coordinating the partnership with these key donors.

The internship position offers a unique opportunity for insight into UNDP’s work and the chance to gain experience from an international professional environment. We are a small office, and the intern will have the opportunity to participate in an array of different tasks and be positioned to influence the office’s work.

Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for an intern to be a team member for 6 months at our office in Oslo. As an intern, you will be given fixed assignments, but as we are a small and very busy office, you will also be given a number of varied and exciting tasks. We would like to find someone who is structured, independent, creative, takes initiative and who is passionate about international development.

Tasks will include:

  • Attend meetings with Norwegian government officials and other partners from public and private sectors
  • Develop analyses and background documents on Norwegian and international development policy
  • Monitor Norwegian media on issues related to the work and mandate of UNDP
  • Translate and distribute news, press releases and stories from English to Norwegian and vice versa
  • Assist in preparing and coordinating launches of UNDP reports and other public events and missions
  • Contribute to briefings related to missions and visits
  • Help to promote awareness of UNDP’s mandate, work, and results
  • Update and develop the Norwegian website no.undp.org
  • Distribute regular updates and content on UNDP’s social media platforms, especially Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Monitor Norwegian media on issues related to the work and mandate of UNDP
  • Various ad hoc tasks.

Competencies

Required competencies

  • Higher education in a relevant field. Former interns have held degrees in areas such as development studies, human geography, political science, and economics.
  • Excellent communications skills in English and Norwegian, both written and oral.
  • Strong interest in, and knowledge of, global development and the work of international organisations.
  • Team player: works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
  • Social media proficiency
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Work experience from a developing country is an advantage.

Advantageous competencies

  • Knowledge of the UN/UNDP and commitment to UN mission and UNDP mandate.
  • Previous organizational experience or working experience from a developing country.
  • Knowledge of web publication tools and photo editing tools.

Required Skills and Experience

Required qualifications:

Languages: fluency in spoken and written Norwegian and English is required.
