Job Tilte: Non-Technical Survey (NTS) & Explosive Ordnance Risk Educator (EORE) Relief Operator

Location: Sudan – South Kordofan

DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Kassala, and Khartoum states. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

About the job

The overall role of the NTS and EORE Relief Operator is to conduct community-level survey activities in different community settings to identify and assess the impact of explosive ordnance on women, girls, boys and men in the target areas and also to implement EORE activities including direct sessions in different community settings, targeting women, girls, boys and men exposed to risks from explosive ordnance in target areas. To participate in community liaison and data collection to inform priority setting and project activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Implementation

  • In coordination with the NTS Team Lead, conduct assigned NTS activities, ensuring quality and compliance with National Mine Action Standards and DRC’s Standard Operating Procedures
  • Collect and analyse existing desktop and secondary data prior to conducting NTS tasks
  • With the NTS team gather geographic, socio-economic and impact information on explosive ordnance-affected communities
  • Support on implementing pre and post intervention surveys to measure the impact of DRC’s mine action activities on targeted communities
  • Support the Team Lead to conduct liaison with local representatives at different levels, in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Establish and maintain a wide information network including authorities, communities, NGOs, and other possible sources of information
  • In coordination with the EORE Team Lead, conduct assigned EORE activities as per the operational plan including direct sessions and training of trainers, ensuring quality and compliance with National Mine Action Standards and DRC’s Standard Operating Procedures
  • Support on community-level survey activities supporting baseline / endline data collection, and Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) surveys
  • Participate in the elaboration of EORE awareness raising materials and EORE public information campaigns
  • Report to the EORE Team Lead all needed equipment and tools required for delivering planned activities
  • Support the Team Lead to conduct liaison with local representatives at different levels, in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Establish and maintain a wide information network including authorities, communities, NGOs, and other possible sources of information

Reporting

  • Ensure daily/weekly/monthly NTS reporting is completed using standard reporting templates and submit to the Information Management Officer and Team Lead for verification and conduct corrections as necessary

  • Report issues faced during project implementation to the Project Manager and Team Lead
  • Document success stories and lessons learned for development of donor reports and case studies
  • Any other duties as directed by the Line Manager

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • 2 years working experience
  • Previous training and experience in NTS and EORE or other mine action specialism desirable
  • Sound knowledge of topography and map drawing, basic handling of compass, GPS and basic digital camera
  • Computer literate
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in Arabic and English
  • Excellent ability to work in a team
  • Good knowledge of local communities and community dynamics
  • Experience and willingness to work in the field in remote and volatile areas

Education:

  • Vocational school - higher education is an asset
  • High school

Languages:

  • Arabic
  • Good knowledge of the English language (verbal and written) is an asset

Salary range: USD 486 - 549

Location: South Kordofan - Kadugli
