UNESCO New Delhi is presently designated as a Cluster Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCO’s competence, namely, education, the natural and social sciences, culture, communication and information. It implements a biennial Cluster programme that is integrated within itself and with the overall goals of the Organization. This is done through a fundamental operating principle - consultation and consensus with the National Commissions of the Member States, Regional Bureaus, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders and partners. The Communication and Information (CI) Programme promotes Freedom of expression and safety of journalists online and off-line by countering hate speech, misinformation and disinformation through awareness raising, monitoring, capacity-building, and technical support. This action is guided by the [United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists.](https://en.unesco.org/un-plan-action-safety-journalists) The CI Programme also supports Media development by strengthening free, independent and pluralistic media, and by creating the conditions necessary for the media to perform effectively. Media and information literacy (MIL) and journalism education institutions are strengthened through policy and curricula development, adaptation and application, and capacity building. The Programme fosters universal access to information and knowledge through the Information for All Programme (IFAP), as well as through Open Solutions, including Open Educational Resources and through the identification, preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage. The Programme aims to strengthen gender equality in media operations and content, and encourages pertinent media coverage of crisis and emergency situations. It contributes to media diversity and pluralism by fostering diverse content, audiences, sources, and systems. Job Description --------------- **JOB DESCRIPTION** Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi Office and the direct supervision of the Advisor for Communication and Information Sector, the Associate Programme Officer will work at the UNESCO New Delhi to deliver the following functions: 1\. Contribute to planning, implementation and reporting of the CI programme, both Regular Programme activities and Extra-budgetary projects; 2\. Coordinate CI programme and project planning and implementation with partner institutions in Cluster countries, including contract preparation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as reporting; 3\. Organize and support the delivery of capacity building workshops and meetings of the CI programme/ projects; 4\. Prepare reports for projects, meetings, events and workshops organized by the CI Sector. 5\. Assist the CI Sector in its preparations for relevant UN International Days such as International Women’s day, World Radio Day, World Press Freedom Day, and other media advocacy events; 6\. Contribute to the development of concept notes and project documents, mapping of potential partners and donors, and other fund-raising activities; 7\. Facilitate CI Sector’s interaction with various external partners such as government officials, donors, civil society, UN agencies and other partners through effective use of written, verbal and electronic communication; 8\. Contribute to visibility actions of the CI programme by drafting news items, press releases, speeches, publication launches, updating webpages and active use of social media as well as other outreach materials as may be required; 9\. A first level university degree in the aforementioned fields, in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. **Experience** Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the field of communication and information and media development. **Languages** Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken) **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- **Entitlements:** Benefits include 2.5 days of annual leave per completed month of service and upto 15% Social Security.
