The project site of Cambodia is the Koh Ker Archaeological site in Preah Vihear project. Long Description ---------------- **Summary of the project:** The Project seeks to safeguard documentary archives associated with selected World Heritage properties in Southeast Asia: the Koh Ker Archaeological site, the Historic City of Ayutthaya, and the Borobudur Temple Compounds. The documentary heritage related to these sites is critical for understanding, studying, managing, and monitoring these sites in a sustainable manner. Therefore, this Project will undertake two streams of implementation: (i) on-site needs assessment and recommendations for improving the system for managing documentary archives at pilot World Heritage sites, and (ii) capacity building in managing documentary archives which will benefit various World Heritage sites in Southeast Asia, based on a manual developed as part of this Project. In this way, the Project will improve the protection of documentary archives, which will contribute to a more informed approach to World Heritage site management. Long Description ---------------- **Tasks and Assignment:** Within the framework of the project “Safeguarding World Heritage Site Archives in Southeast Asia”, and under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh and the overall supervision of the Culture Programme Specialist of the UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh, the incumbent shall serve as an individual specialist and perform functions as follows: 1. Support the undertaking of a situation analysis of World Heritage documentary archives at the Koh Ker Archaeological Site in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia: 1. Conduct a **preliminary site visit to gather relevant data and identify key/strategic issues**. 2. Develop a **short inventory of key archives/holdings** related to the WH site prior to the site visit of the lead technical expert based on a preliminary site visit/research. 1.3. **Undertake a site visit in conjunction with the lead technical expert** to refine the situation analysis and provide local coordination and translation onsite (if needed). 2. Guide the capacity building of staff and professionals related to World Heritage documentary archives management by providing **inputs for designing the on-the-job training plan** for the Koh Ker Archeological Site, as part of the implementation of the site-based recommendations. 3. **Support the lead author in outlining the World Heritage archives manual** to respond to archival management needs that have been identified, in consultation with UNESCO, other experts, site representatives, and relevant heritage and archives agencies. In line with UNESCO’s overall gender mainstreaming strategy, the incumbent is expected to integrate a gender perspective in all activities and apply gender analysis and mainstreaming concepts whenever feasible. Long Description ---------------- **Deliverable and Timeframe:** 1\. Preliminary on-site study/research and inventory of key archives/holdings related to the site (Tasks 1.1, 1.2) by 31 July 2023. 2\. Mission report to the site including site-specific recommendations co-generated with the international expert (Task 1.3) by 30 September 2023. 3\. Comments on designing the on-the-job archival training plan for heritage site managers (Task 2) and on the content of the draft manual outline (Task 3) by 30 November 2023. Duty Station: Home-based with required missions to the Koh Ker Archaeological Site (Cambodia). **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Qualifications:** ***Education*:** An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent and above) in arts and culture; heritage management studies; library and information science; archives and records management science; or any related field with a sub-specialization related to conservation and/or museology, if possible. ***Work experience*:** \- Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in the field of archiving and heritage management. \- Proven experience in developing archival inventories and working on documentary heritage management. \- Experience in training on archives and/or World Heritage site management will be a plus. ***Skills*:** \- Knowledge of Khmer, Southeast Asian, and/or Asia-Pacific culture and heritage issues \- Good knowledge of documentary archives and their management issues in the context of Cambodia \- Proven conceptual and analytical skills \- Effective planning and organizing ability \- Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills ***Language*:** All the deliverables will be submitted in English therefore excellent knowledge of English is required.
