The Position:

Under the overall supervision of the CO Representative, the incumbent will assist the UNFPA Mozambique Country Office in the planning, coordination and implementation of UNFPA's interventions in the Northern provinces of Cabo Delgado and Niassa, Mozambique.

The Nexus Coordinator will provide strategic direction to increase interactions and complementarity across UNFPA Humanitarian Development and sustaining Peace projects and programmes.

The incumbent will ensure strong collaboration with humanitarian, development and peace actors for SRHR, GBV and Youth empowerment programming to reduce people’s needs, risks and vulnerability while ensuring long-lasting impact of development and peace programmes in compliance with UNFPA Mozambique 10th Country Programme Document and national strategies.

UNFPA Nexus Coordinator will support the effective and efficient implementation of UNFPA´s projects and programmes in Cabo Delgado and Niassa within the frameworks of the Mozambique United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), UNFPA Mozambique Country Programme (2022-2026), UNFPA Strategic Plan (2022-2025) and the ICPD+25 agenda. The incumbent will manage and lead the sub office in Pemba, Cabo Delgado composed of a team of national and international experts, and Niassa team once UNFPA expands its intervention to this province. The incumbent will also liaise with the Head of Office in Nampula and team leaders in Nampula on SRHR and Youth/Gender to ensure the coherence of the nexus approach is ensured throughout the projects implemented in the three Northern provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Nampula.

Job Purpose:

The protracted nature of the crisis in Northern Mozambique demonstrates the importance of comprehensive understanding and application of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus (HDPN). UNFPA seeks to consolidate its humanitarian response with an increased focus on recovery and resilience building, and the promotion of sustaining peace. UNFPA’s strategy is aimed at ensuring that in the long-term, the Government of Mozambique maintains its capacity to provide quality services to communities in a peaceful environment. UNFPA seeks to build resilience among adolescent girls, women, and youth in the context of the stabilization and recovery strategies in northern Mozambique with a focus on SRHR and GBV prevention, mitigation, and response.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent and above) with specialization in public health, gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, economics, statistics, sociology, social work, development studies, public administration, international relations, and/or other related social science disciplines.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in relevant humanitarian/development programming and coordination experience at an international level, preferably related to SRHR, GBV and/or emergency response, including field experiences. At least 8 years at the international level.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and management experience within a multi-cultural team environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UN/UNFPA humanitarian/development programming and operations, and about UN common programming principles including human-rights based approach, gender equality and capacity development.
  • Skills in building strategic alliances and partnerships, strong communication and networking and excellent organizational skills.
  • Coaching and mentoring experiences and skills added advantage.
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills and excellent communications and inter-personal skills and diplomatic tact.
  • Ability to self-manage, emotional intelligence, empathy, team spirit, conflict management as well as negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work in complex and insecure contexts.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and proficient Portuguese (or Spanish, Italian or French) required
