How can you make a difference?

UNICEF in Vientiane, Lao PDR, is looking for a national internship to support the communications team in various facets, playing a key role in the dissemination of information and engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. Pivotal in enhancing our communication strategies, ensuring that our efforts in advocating for children's rights are effectively communicated and reach a broad audience. The duration of this assignment is six months, starting as soon as possible. The consultant will be based at the UNICEF Lao PDR Office.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

The overall objective of this internship will:

  • Assist in monitoring press coverage related to children's rights and UNICEF’s activities in Lao PDR, and compile press clippings.

  • Manage and organize the photo and video library, ensuring that all materials are catalogued and easily accessible for various communication needs.

  • Provide logistical support for communications activities, including coordinating bookings and managing schedules.

  • Support the planning and execution of events, including coordination with vendors, preparing event materials, and assisting with on-site logistics.

  • Asist with translation of communication assets such as press releases and social media posts

  • Support with the management and distribution of visibility materials. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of communication strategies and plans.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the communications team.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Undertaking a degree in a relevant area, e.g., economics, social science, public administration, and any other Discipline relevant to the position.
  • Proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, - Working Knowledge
  • AND - Laotian (Mandatory), Level – Fluent
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Familiarity with the UN system, including the participating UN organizations
  • Familiarity with UN Joint Programming
  • Knowledge of the Lao PDR political and social context, policy and legal frameworks and health sector
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Fluency and excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Familiar with and understand Lao national and/or economic development issues
  • Familiar with multi-culture environment would be an asset

Availability:

  • Desired role period for 6 months negotiable (i.e. August 2024 – February 2025)
  • Monday to Friday (full time – 5 days per week).
