The incumbent will be working with UNICEF Supply Division, contributing to improve technical and quality assurance of nutrition products procured from a global supplier base of over twenty suppliers, including local suppliers of food for special medical purposes (FSMPs).

We are seeking a competent technical project manager who can project manage, co-ordinate activities and provide support for the UNICEF technical team and broader inter-agency group working on three main project workstreams:

1. Co-ordination of operations research project on alternative formulations of ready to use therapeutic foods. 2. Development of Implementation guidance for lipid-based products (LNS) including coordinating a sub project in determination of sampling protocols within pre-requisite programs for ingredients/ raw materials for LNS suppliers

3. Product scaling activities with suppliers and technical focal points for products previously unscaled within lower and middle income contexts.

4. Webinar series to build capacity of suppliers manufacturing nutrition products for UNICEF

How can you make a difference?

Tasks and Activities 1. Scope technical projects from initiation to completion in collaboration with the core technical team members, iterate the project plan as needed 2. Develop project plans for the above listed projects in collaboration with focal points 3. Co-ordinate and facilitate inter-agency and cross functional team meetings for each project 4. Track milestones, follow up and support team members to deliver activities and deliverables to agreed deadlines 5. Review draft project outputs and screen for project brief deviations or project quality deficits 6. Plan and monitor budgets for each project 7. Draft presentations on project progress 8. Draft updates to stakeholders, include donor reporting

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree in one or more of the following areas: food technology/ engineering, food science / food safety, microbiology, nutrition or other relevant discipline within the food sciences area.
  • A combination of 5 years of project management experience within the food sciences domain combined with an undergraduate degree in related discipline can be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree.
  • 5 years minimum of progressively responsible professional work experience in technical project management, food safety, food science or related field. A combination of suitable qualifications together with demonstrated experience and expertise in relevant fields of professional work may also be accepted.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
  • Expertise or experience in a project management approach suited for food products and/ or the development sector.
  • Knowledge of milestone management in operational trials within the development sector.
  • Knowledge of Codex standards, product specification development, food safety issues and risks management.
  • Ability to review scientific papers and reports with a high standard of academic English.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
