The Information and Technologies Management Unit (ITM) provides information and technologies management services to WHO programmes, including the Inter Country Support Team Offices (IST), and 47 WHO country offices in the African region.The Unit is also responsible for the formulation, implementation, and coordination of ICT strategies and policies in the African region.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, administration and reliable operation of the telephone and data communications infrastructure.Planning, designing, installing and maintenance network environment including cabling, wireless network, switching and routing configurations.Manage firewall and proxy devices, routing configuration and security on the network environment.Upgrade and update the firm ware and operating systems of network and communications active devicesMonitor network and communications infrastructure, including V SAT, Internet links and services, telephony systems to improve performance.Troubleshoot network and communications infrastructure errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues. Maintain security/cybersecurity processes and procedures within the IT infrastructure environment.Responsible for capacity, transition planning, and network performance.Install and support multimedia, telephone and online video conferencing platforms. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and policies related to the network and communications infrastructure services.Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degree or equivalent training and/or experience, in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. CISCO technologies certification and IT Security methods and engineering experience will be an advantage. Desirable: PRINCE2, ITIL, COBIT, Microsoft, Qualys,Checkpoint, will be an asset.
Experience
Essential: At least 5 years of experience in network infrastructure implementation, security, administration and maintenance. Desirable: Experience in project management as well as solid knowledge of technology trends for effective user and IT infrastructure support.
Skills
Knowledge and experience in LAN/WAN architecture, configuration, and administration.Strong networking concepts with regards to managing Network infrastructure/environment.Practical knowledge and understanding of CISCO switches,routers, active devices, and software.Knowledge in implementation and managing IT security/cyber security systems and tools.Good analytical and problem-solving skills be intuitive with a high sense of responsibility towards achieving results in a timely manner.Ability to work well in a team setting and under pressure.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3323 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
