Organizational Setting

FAO Kyrgyzstan is implementing a project on support to development of sustainable value chains for climate-smart agriculture in Issyk-Kul and Naryn Regions by providing technical assistance on institutional strengthening and capacity. FAO plans to identify the key value chains in the target regions, providing recommendations on infrastructure needs in each rayon of these regions, building the institutional and technical capacities of local communities to operate the storing infrastructure, as well as increasing their overall productivity and resilience to climate change.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in Kyrgyzstan and direct supervision of LTO, in close coordination with the national counterpart, the National Project Coordinator (NPC), the consultant will undertake the following duties:

Technical Focus

Agricultural economy, agricultural value chains.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Collect primary and secondary data (both for baseline and end-project cost-benefit and value-chain assessments).

• Contribute to the cost-benefit analysis (both for baseline and end-project value-chain assessment), if needed.

• Visit all the project districts, conducts in-depth interviews with project stakeholders, local communities.

• Contribute to identification of key value-chains in each district.

• Collect data on cooperatives and farmer organizations located in project districts.

• Prepare preliminary versions of baseline and end-project value-chain analyses to be submitted to the IC – Value Chain Expert.

• Participate in training sessions, workshops, communication or capacity development related activities on institutional arrangements, value chains and climate-smart agriculture practices organized by the project.

• Perform any other duties when required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  1. Advanced university degree in agricultural sciences / agro-economy / economics, or related field
  2. Research, data analysis, analytical and reporting skills
  3. At least 5 years of working experience in one or more of these areas: value chain analysis and development, agricultural and agri-business development
  4. Working knowledge of English and Russian
  5. National of the Kyrgyz Republic
