Increased and enhanced child-sensitive programs, evidence-based, inclusive policies, gender and age responsive mechanisms and technologies to address climate change, disaster risks and environmental degradation and promote community-based actions to meet the right of children and young people.

Under the general guidance of chief WASH and in close collaboration with the relevant sector partners, the objective of this assignment is to give additional support to WASH programme under direct supervision by WASH specialist at Erbil field office in line with the new RWP 2022-2023 and Erbil delivery plan 2022.

WASH Erbil field office is recruiting a WASH consultant under the direct supervision of the WASH Specialist in Erbil Field Office to support the programme by working jointly with the team for delivering the planned activities and achieving the planned targets under the 2022 delivery plan.

The program strategy for 2022 to 2023 is expanding by targeting new interventions with additional people focusing on the current context: Climate change, environmental degradation, etc, and reaching new geographic areas in line with the new Rolling Work Plan 2022-2023.

The WASH programme needs a consultant to support the programme in achieving the targeted results for 2022 in the specialized activities including, upgrade information management systems, aquifer recharge and rainwater harvesting and scale up water catchment initiative in water stressed areas, etc.

How can you make a difference?

  • Direct coordination with the service provider in the water sector to finalize the Bill of Quantities and schedule for the proposed rehabilitation projects on water harvesting models.
  • Direct supervision/ physical presence on-site for quality assurance of works on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Responsible for conducting a technical assessment on-site (By developing the KOBO collect program) and selecting the most vulnerable villages (Through a transparent and effective analysis) for the water provision system in Halabja governorate.
  • Direct supervision/ physical presence on-site for quality assurance for the recommended interventions for the water supply system in vulnerable communities on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Supervision of the Kawergosk refugee camp.
  • Provide general technical guidance on WASH planned projects in Ninawa, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
  • Coordination with Sulaymaniyah Irrigation water directorate to identify the most suitable places for rainwater harvesting project (pond) in the governorate by developing selection criteria template, analysis tool, verification of the need on the ground.
  • Direct supervision/ physical presence on-site for quality assurance for construction of the determined pond projects in Sulaymaniyah governorate.
  • Support piloting information management system in Erbil governorate by conducting an on-site assessment, coordination with relevant directorates, site selection criteria, and supervision of implementation for quality assurance.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s in civil engineering, Dams and Water Resources Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction and at least 4 years in Humanitarian response Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset. Minimum 4 years’ experience in Water and Sanitation fields with UN or international organizations. Software knowledge: Advanced in AutoCAD, Office, KOBO, ETABS, Tedds, Safe. Work experience in assessment, design, and supervision of water resource projects (Dams, Ponds, Networks, water storage tanks, WTP).
  • Language proficiency in English. Arabic and Kurdish are an asset.
