National Veterinary Consultant
Organizational Setting
Reducing rural poverty through smallholder support in the agricultural sector offers a critical development pathway for FAO to achieve its three global goals on reducing hunger and malnutrition, economic development (which includes the elimination of poverty) and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Reporting Lines
The Consultant will work under the technical supervision of the Project Technical Team, the operational supervision of the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, and in close coordination with the Lead Technical Officer in REU and other members of the project team.

Tasks and responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Tajikistan, the technical supervision of the Senior Animal Health & Production Officer of FAO-REU (LTO), in coordination with Monitoring Officer, National Project Coordinator, the International and National Consultants and the Implementing Partner (IP), the Consultant will undertake the following duties:
Coordinate at the national level all activities that aim at strengthening the veterinary services capacity to early detect and rapidly response to potential outbreaks of lumpy skin disease (LSD)
In particular, the Consultant will be expected to:
- Aid in the coordination of activities and workshops at the national level with national authorities (e.g. veterinary services, laboratory), associations (farmers and field vets) and academia (veterinary schools);
- Assist in the collection of all essential documents, material and data relevant to project implementation;
- Provide technical inputs as needed, e.g. awareness materials on LSD, identification of national experts on LSD, etc.;
- Participate in the inter-regional coordination workshops;
- Assist in the development of technical materials relevant to LSD;
- Assist in the delivery of trainings of field veterinarians and farmers;
- Identify the information/data needed for the cost-benefit analysis and enter it into the provided Excel template;
- Provide interpretation for international consultants as needed;
- Arrange for the translation of awareness materials on LSD and other technical documents as needed;
- Check translation of materials into local languages from a technical perspective;
- Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in veterinary science
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in relevant field
- National of the Republic of Tajikistan

Technical/Functional Skills
- Excellent knowledge of epidemiology and regulatory livestock disease control, relevant experience in livestock health issues.
