Overview

Oversee and support childhood cancer initiatives in Myanmar for WHO.

You have:

  • A basic university degree in medicine is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Myanmar languages (spoken and written) required.
  • Minimum of two years working experience related to childhood cancer management is required.
  • Experience with childhood cancer control program development is required.
  • Experience of working with international organizations for childhood cancer control is desirable.
  • A post-graduate degree in social sciences or public health is desirable.

Overview of the programme

Under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative and direct supervision of National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) in Myanmar, the national technical Officer of Childhood Cancer Initiatives project will work in close collaboration with the Project Manager of Childhood Cancer Initiative Project from the dedicated institution: Yangon Children’s Hospital and WHO Country Office, in Myanmar.

Description of Duties

1.Assist the WHO Myanmar to oversight the CCI overall project implementation in Myanmar mandated under the WHO Global Childhood Cancer Initiative (GICC) mission

2.Coordinate between the CCI Project Manager at Yangon Children Hospital in Myanmar, the National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) of the WHO Myanmar Country Office, and the relevant stakeholders of the WHO SEA Regional Office for effective implementation of the project

3.Support the implementation of Childhood Cancer Initiative (CCI) activities to attain the desirable outcomes in the context of National Childhood Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) for the following activities:

  • Develop detail project implementation plan of National Childhood Cancer Control activities including CCI Project activities
  • Assist the CCI Project Manager and National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) in designing or re-designing of project interventions in-line with the local context and in accordance with local priority needs
  • Support technically for implementation of childhood cancer initiative activities including nutrition advice
  • Assist the CCI Project Manager and the National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) to monitor the progress of project implementation as well as project fund utilization through coordination and facilitated implementation with institution’s team members and CCI project staff
  • Assist the CCI Project Manager and the National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) to review, compile and submit the project (technical and financial) reports to the defined higher level(s)

4.Coordinate with CCI project supporting partners such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, WHO SEARO, HQs and alike as needed

5.Host/organize project meetings with the WHO Myanmar country office, SEA Regional Office as required, and the implementing institution(s) through program development and facilitated discussions

6.Assist the WHO Myanmar country office and SEARO delivery of technical advice and guidance to the CCI implementing partners in Myanmar

7.Supervise the WHO Myanmar CCI project staffs related to project intervention to attain the desirable outcomes

Work relations

The National Technical Officer (CCI) will work closely between the WHO and the member institution and their team members from various departments/divisions to facilitate timely and effective implementation of the project activities. The national technical officer (CCI) together with the National Program Officer (NCDs and Mental Health) will seek technical guidance or advocate to the WHO SEA regional office and the funding agencies for further program development or restructuring of the project in adapting with response to the local context as needed.

The function plays a key role for successful implementation of the project activities to attain the desired outcome through facilitated coordination.

QUALIFICATION

Education:

Essential: A basic university degree in medicine

Desirable: A certified basic childhood cancer knowledge. A post-graduate degree preferably in social sciences or public health is desirable

Experience:

Essential: Experience with childhood cancer control program development or a field directly related to childhood cancer management, tracking record of minimum two years of working experiences for childhood cancer control, experience in multi-disciplinary expert teamwork

Desirable: Experience of working with international organization for childhood cancer control and management

Language skills:

Excellent knowledge of English and Myanmar languages (spoken and written)
