Overview

Conduct socio-economic analysis for climate change support.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (PhD, MS or equivalent) in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analyses applied to issues relevant to FAO’s mandate with emphasis on food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture, poverty and rural development.
  • Working knowledge of English and Armenian languages
  • National of Armenia or resident in the country with a valid work permit.

Organizational Setting

FAO assists Armenia on climate change issues and in its engagement on the national NDC processes with a special focus in the agriculture sector, forestry and Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF). The agriculture sector as well as forestry (afforestation, forest protection) and LULUCF (other land uses) are considered among the key sectors in the country´s revised NDC. Therefore, in line with the global mandate of FAO, support will be provided to integrate and ensure participation of the agriculture, forestry and LULUCF stakeholders in the National activities related to NDC update, implementation, as well as other climate change related initiatives in the country.

Reporting Lines

The National Specialist on Socio-Economic Analysis will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Armenia (REU), the technical supervision of the FAO Senior Policy Officer (REU) and in collaboration with FAO Armenia experts.

Technical Focus

The National Specialist on Socio-Economic Analysis will perform work in close collaboration with national and international project staff to identify best practices on vulnerability assessment of rural households and conducting research.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Explore international best practices on vulnerability assessment of rural households, notably in relation to household income calculation from agricultural farming. • Conduct desk research analysis of all relevant national policy and administrative documents. • Map available databases to be potentially used as a source for building the econometric model. • Develop methodological guidelines for agricultural income calculation and vulnerability assessment. • Specify the mathematical and econometric model for agricultural income calculation accounting on number of characteristics (household, land, crops, produce, livestock, etc). • Perform other duties as required.
