Conduct thematic studies on agricultural data
You have:
- Advanced university degree/technical diploma/high school diploma in Agronomy, Agricultural Statistics and Agro-economist, Sociology or other relevant related technical field and with proven professional experience
- Working knowledge of Portuguese with English, French or Spanish knowledge is relevant
- Nationality of Mozambique or resident in the country with regular work permit
Organizational Setting
The IAI 2020 was conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER) is part of the government ´s Five Year Plan 2019-2024 and is a crucial collection for the data on the agricultural sector as a delegated organ and an important contribution for National Statistical System (SEN) it is therefore seen as a high priority activity. The IAI 2020 was an important tool for the agricultural sector providing key statistics for the governmental planning process with the objective of reducing poverty and improving food security in the country; and for measuring the Millennium Development Goals.
The data collection for the IAI 2020 was completed in 2021 and the data were cleaned, analyzed and processed. However, there is a need for thematic studies which will provide greater detail and usability for policy makers. The studies will be conducted by nine national thematic consultants, with guidance of a national consultant editor and coordinator.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall technical guidance of the FAO Statistics Division based in Rome, the overall general supervision of the FAO Representative, in close collaboration with the National Directorate for Planning and Policy in coordination with the Editor and Coordinator Consultant specialized in agricultural statistics.
Technical Focus
The role of the national consultants will consists in the preparation of the analytical studies in each of the below referred thematic areas selected by the government derived from the agricultural integrated annual survey 2020 in Mozambique.
Tasks and responsibilities
The thematic studies will be:
- Use of improved agricultural inputs in the agricultural sector;
- Access to credit for development of farming;
- Productivity in agriculture;
- Basic food crops and food security;
- Engajement of youth in agricultural-livestock production;
- Crop Production Yied by Gender and Level of Education of the Household Head
- Acess to extension services related to agriculture and veterenary products;
- Evolution of Livestock;
- Acess to agricultural inputs markets;
The national specialist will undertake the following tasks:
- Engage in the literature review and data analysis from IAI 2020 from the perspective of the selected thematic area;
- Receive as much as possible contribution from the key data users;
- Ensure that the methods used are consistent and harmonized where applicable.
- Liaise with Editor and Coordinator in order to settle all related constraints and areas for improvement in the data available
- Ensure that the comments addressed to various subject matter specialists working on the thematic studies are observed and taken into account
- Participate in the preparation of the workshop and present the respective individual working paper and receive the inputs from the participants
- Review the final report of the final delivery
- Ensure that the editing of the selected thematic area is feet for the monograph that should be ready for publication, including consistency of structure, style, spelling, formats, punctuation etc.

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree/technical diploma/high school diploma in Agronomy, Agricultural Statistics and Agro-economist, Sociology or other relevant related technical field and with proven professional experience
- Working knowledge of Portuguese with English, French or Spanish knowledge is relevant
- Nationality of Mozambique or resident in the country with regular work permit.
