Organizational Setting
FAO Bangladesh assists the Government to formulate policies, programme and projects to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and utilize environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way. It contributes to the development of FAO’s field programme projects in the country and implements them in the sectors of food security, agriculture and rural development.
Reporting Lines
The National Specialist (Information Systems) is an S8 position and will work Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR) in Bangladesh, the direct supervision of the ECTAD Country Team Leader, and in close collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh and implementing partners supporting the emergency response to COVID-19 in Bangladesh, the incumbent will perform the following duties
Technical Focus
Provide technical advice to the technology development and coordination of FAO-implemented information management initiatives, including the Community Support Teams (CST) information management system, the Bangladesh Animal Health Intelligence System (BAHIS), the antimicrobial sensitivity test (AST) portal, and support development of an integrated respiratory disease surveillance system.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
- Oversee development of GoB’s CST Information Management application with a normalised database and configurable parameters allowing for a rapid adjustment in evolving scientific and support needs;
- Coordinate development schedule, providing regular updates and estimates of work requested by other partners in the CST programme.
- Facilitate regular meetings for Information Management arm of the CST programme;
- Perform routine maintenance of all information systems established with FAO support;
- Support the CST training team in developing materials and SOPs related to Information Management.
- Support in-country COVID-19 information management team to troubleshoot and resolve critical bugs and analytical gaps, such as standardized georeferencing of laboratory-submitted sample data, specifically in the context of integration with CST programme and the respiratory disease surveillance system;
- Coordinate technical work of institutions involved in the development of the integrated respiratory disease surveillance system and provide technical support with development of training materials
- Take part in regularly scheduled information management technical working group meetings via Zoom remote videoconferencing;
- Provide technical advice and support to the in-country COVID-19 information management team as needed;
- Provide technical support and coordination with vendor of implementation of the Bangladesh Animal Health Intelligence System (BAHIS), including resolution of complex technical issues and contribute to time-sensitive work;
- Support the DLS Epidemiology Unit to design and develop additional BAHIS modules, including outbreak investigation, immunizations, and inventory and logistics modules;
- Provide technical support for the inclusion of the variety of laboratory data formats into the AST portal;
- Provide key adjustments to the AST portal requested by beneficiaries and laboratory staff in close collaboration with the FAO technical team;
- Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related subject;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and fluency in Bengali.
- National of Bangladesh.
