Organizational Setting

FAO's vision of sustainable food and agriculture is a world in which food is nutritious and available for all, and natural resources are managed in ways that maintain ecosystem functions to support current and future human needs. In this sense, FAO is implementing the FRESAN project (Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security) in southern Angola, which aims to strengthen food systems that are sensitive to the nutrition of smallholder family farmers, thus improving their resilience to climate change, through the dissemination and integration of the methodology and practices of farmers' field schools (FFS).

Reporting Lines

Under the overall managerial administrative leadership of the FAO Representative in Angola, the tasks of this position will be executed under the direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Programme) and the National Project Coordinator (NPC).

Technical Focus

The general objective of the assignment is to provide technical and pedagogical assistance on matters related to food security and nutrition-sensitive food systems in the FFS implemented by the project, to support the achievement of the results of the nutrition indicators. This will include (but not limited to) a) baseline of the food and nutrition indicators; b) creation of training curriculums for the FFS; c) training of FFS facilitators; d) dissemination of good nutritional practices for local communities in the FFS; e) cooking demonstration sessions in the FFS; etc.

This position will be field-based, full-time, and will focus on the methodological guidance and supervision of a national specialist executing tasks on the ground related to the mentioned activities.

Tasks and responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will include technical and pedagogical assistance in the execution of the following tasks:

• Develop training curriculum package for the FFS in food security and nutrition sensitive agriculture. • Ensure the implementation of the training curriculum packages in the FFS. • Conduct trainings and speeches for FFS facilitators, technicians, and beneficiaries, according to training curriculum developed. • Support the project in establishing a database for monitoring the nutrition indicators. • Identify and train municipal FFS nutrition facilitators to support in dissemination of the food security and nutrition sensitive agriculture topics. • Conduct and guide cooking demonstration sessions in the FFS based on local products available. • Participate in meetings and trainings in topics related to gender and nutrition sensitive approach promoted by the project partners and build synergies with them that can be beneficial for the FFS. • Mainstream of nutrition and gender sensitive approaches in the FFS activities.
