Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programs, and projects to achieve food and nutrition security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources sustainably. The post is located in the FAO Representation in the Islamic Republic of Iran (Tehran). All FAO-Iran employees shall follow the UN workweek (from Sunday to Thursday) and holiday schedule.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will perform his/her tasks and duties under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative, under the technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer, in close contact with the other FAO colleagues and in collaboration with the Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Management of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad.

Technical Focus

The Project Coordinator provides support to the implementation, operation, and capacity development of the strategies and concerns of the on-going FAO project(s).

Task and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following tasks and duties:

  1. Organize and handle day-to-day operational and implementation activities of the assigned project(s);
  2. Be responsible for results based monitoring and reporting of the assigned project(s in close collaboration with the project personnel and the FAO Representative;
  3. Lead the preparation of project work plans, monitor progress and, where necessary, in consultation with the FAO Representative, identify corrective measures to overcome operational constraints;
  4. Review and monitor the transaction listings and financial statements, initiate corrective actions and prepare budget revisions as required;
  5. Organize project Task Force Meetings as and when required;
  6. Ensure the timely provision of project inputs (personnel, technical support services, sub-contracts, training, equipment and supplies) directly by the Organization or, when appropriate, through contractors;
  7. Lead the timely preparation and submission of the Quarterly Project Implementation Reports, the financial reports, progress reports, and any other reports on project required by the Organization;
  8. Assist in procurement, and in finalizing Letters of Agreement (LOAs) and contracts with local partners related to the project(s). Ensure that contracts and LOAs have been finalized and completed in accordance with the regulations and recommendations of FAO;
  9. Coordinate the incoming and outgoing missions and coordinate field activities under the project(s);
  10. Brief local, and international project personnel, experts and consultants on specific aspects of allowances, salaries, financial matters, contracts, recruitment, etc.;
  11. Set up and maintain a monitoring system for the efficient implementation of the activities throughout the project cycle in order to facilitate project execution;
  12. Coordinate the preparation of briefs and comprehensive reports and ensure timely dissemination of information on the impact of the project to FAO, the local authorities, donor community, and the UN agencies;
  13. Liaise with relevant FAO departments at HQ and the Regional Office, as necessary, on issues related to the implementation of the project;
  14. Provide support to the mid-term and/or final evaluation of the project when applicable;
  15. Organize and support project missions in all required aspects;
  16. Participate in assessment of needs and field supervision missions in the framework of the project(s);
  17. Perform other related duties as required

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Rural Development, Food Security, Agriculture, Economies, Planning, Management or other related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Project Management and Operations.
  • National of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • Working knowledge of English and Persian.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Experience in applying gender and social inclusion principles
  • Knowledge and experience in results-based management, development and implementation of budgets, preparation of technical reports, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of management, coordination or implementation of projects, preferably in a field related to environment and livelihoods.
  • Ability to prepare concise reports.
  • Experience in implementation and evaluation of FAO projects desirable.
  • Good command of computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet).
  • Previous project management experience with international organizations would be an asset.

  • Excellent knowledge of and working experience with government institutions at all levels.

  • Capacity to draft concise and strategic documents and reports.
