Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources sustainably. The post is located in the project office at the Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad. All FAO-Iran employees shall follow the UN workweek (from Sunday to Thursday) and holiday schedule.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will perform his/her tasks and duties under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative to the I.R. Iran, direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, in close contact with the other FAO colleagues and in collaboration with the Forests, Rangeland and Watershed Management Organization (FRWO) of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad.

Technical Focus

The NPP provides support to implementation and operation of the project Rehabilitation of Forest Landscapes and Degraded Land with Particular Attention to Saline Soils and Areas Prone to Wind Erosion (RFLDL) in close collaboration with the Project Coordinator and the national and local stakeholders.

Task and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following tasks and duties:

  1. Review and collect available climate change projections and analyses for Iran, at the national level, for the target provinces of the project and associated river basins;
  2. Ensure effective operational support to the project GCP/IRA/064/GFF; ensure consistency with the Organization’s operational requirements and the country’s rules and regulations.
  3. Provide necessary support to the GEF project, collaborate with the supervisor, National Project Coordinator and other GEF project management staff and support the team on necessary project related duties.
  4. Assists to ensure the timely provision of inputs for personnel, technical support services, sub-contracts, training, equipment/supplies and other needs related to project operations.
  5. Coordinate the collection, maintenance, distribution and consolidation of technical and operations data: analyze and summarize data from various sources, including FAO corporate systems, such as IMIS (Integrated Management Information System), COIN (Country Office Information System) and FPMIS (Field Programme Management Information System), Data Warehouse, country data bases, etc.;
  6. Assist in preparing Projects Implementation Reports (PIR) and any other periodic and ad hoc reports and ensure their timely submission to project management;
  7. Assist in conducting the internal meetings for project TF and national/international partners;
  8. Accompany field visits to project sites and/or accompany project managers and/or experts in their meetings with donors and government officials;
  9. Assist in collection of required documents for timely visa acquisition, travel arrangements and travel information sharing with international /national participants;
  10. Assist the Project Coordinator in preparation of meeting minutes and any other necessary documents as needed;
  11. Make arrangements for meetings, seminars and events: implement logistics, prepare correspondence, compile and distribute documents, make administrative arrangements;
  12. Follow up on administrative actions, as requested by the Project Coordinator, related to project staff field activities, project-related meetings and other required logistical arrangement including travel, payments,;
  13. Assist the supervisor in reviewing the incoming correspondence and take necessary follow up action; prepare replies on routine operational matters;
  14. Prepare background material, working papers and tables for briefings, review sessions and meetings under the supervisor directives and in coordination with other project staff as requested by the supervisor.
  15. Review and direct correspondence, answer calls and route queries to appropriate contacts; respond to routine enquiries.
  16. Provide assistance to supervisor on matters related to routine project financial transactions and provide financial statements and reports from FPMIS as required by the supervisor as well as the LTO/BH;
  17. Assist the project team with providing translations from/to English-Persian languages of letters, emails and other correspondences as required;
  18. Keep records of correspondence and other relevant documents
  19. Upload/retrieve data/documents onto corporate systems such as FAO FPMIS as and when necessary
  20. Brief and train lower level project support staff regarding all aspects of the job, ensuring adherence to procedures, guidelines and work requirements; ensure accuracy and diligence of the work provided.
  21. Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in project management and administration, Agriculture, Natural Resources or related fields
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in project related activities i.e. project administration, or advanced university degree in abovementioned fields and one year of relevant experience in project administration or other relevant subject in project activities.
  • National of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • Proven communications skills and fluent in English and Persian.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in project support and management
  • Experience in projects related to Agriculture or Natural Resources would be an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of UN or standard operational rules and procedures and project/programme administrative works
  • Very good written and spoken English language skills
  • Fluent written and spoken Farsi language skills
