UNESCO‘s intervention in education is nested within a humanitarian-development nexus, and aims are aimed at sowing the seeds for long-term sustainable development in South Sudan. Based on its mandate and comparative advantage, UNESCO strives to promote education as a fundamental human right in South Sudan through policy development, education systems strengthening and successful implementation of programmes and projects that support quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. UNESCO's comparative advantage is supporting ministries and national institutions through successful collaboration to encourage and facilitate access, quality, relevance and equity in the delivery of education to all. UNESCO Juba Office, recently launched a four-year project (2021-2024) that aims to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training in South Sudan with the generous funding from Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The project aims to reduce unemployment and boost livelihood opportunities amongst young women and men from poorer families through strengthening gender responsive governance, quality and relevance of the TVET system in South Sudan, including strengthening environment and climate change awareness and adaptation capacity to reduce vulnerability and incidences of inter-communal and intra-communal conflicts. The project focuses on changing perspective and notion of the community and the government through policy and programme interventions towards non-gender-bias division of labour, recognizing value of domestic work, and breaking through stereotyped engagement of women in livelihood activities. Long Description ---------------- The National Project Officer will work under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Juba Office, direct supervision of the Head of Education Unit, Education Programme Specialist and under close guidance and support of Project Officer. S/he will support the implementation of the project entitled “Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training in South Sudan.” • Work closely with the Education Programme Specialist and the Project Officer to contribute to overall operational, programmatic, and administrative as well as implementation of the project in South Sudan. This includes regular travel to the field, supporting the development of annual work plans, and facilitating results-based monitoring, evaluation and reporting of results, based on the requirements of the project included in the project agreement. • Asist to coordinate and facilitate the work of national counterparts by supporting convening of regular coordination meetings with implementing partners and establish close coordination with the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MOGEI) at both the national and sub-national levels, and other relevant ministries through the Project Advisory Committee. • Support designing and organization of teacher training and capacity building initiatives as envisioned in the project. • Facilitate and coordinate development of teacher training and development materials with the support of national experts, and where needed, international experts. • Support administrative and logistical operations of the project activities in line with UNESCO rules and regulations in consultation with the Project Officer and other project team members and working in close collaboration with the Administrative Officer and the Administration team for the implementation of the project activities. • Support implementation of the project visibility and communication plan by, among other things, providing inputs for websites, press releases/newspaper articles, speeches, presentations, to raise the visibility of the project, the donor, and UNESCO. • Support documentation of lessons learned and best practices from the project, including approaches, methodologies, tools, success, and challenges, with a view to ensuring project outcomes sustainability, programme scale up, and support south-to-south learning and knowledge exchange. • Execute additional tasks, as required and assigned by the Head of Juba Office and Head of Education Unit, Education Programme Specialist.
