Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. With presently 194 member states, FAO works in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Vietnam where the Organization has operated since 1978. The current Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the period of 2022‑2025 has four priority areas: (1) One Health (OH); (2) Climate change response, environment and natural resources management; (3) Food safety, sustainable production and consumption, and equitable livelihoods for all; and (4) Governance, Gender and PWDs. The incumbent’s tasks will mainly contribute to the fourth priority area.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Viet Nam, the direct supervision of ECTAD Senior Technical Coordinator of the Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Disease (ECTAD) in Viet Nam, and in close collaboration with FAO Viet Nam, relevant government colleagues and the ECTAD team at FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP).

Tasks and responsibilities

  1. Support and assist the Senior Technical Coordinator to deliver national ECTAD program in Viet Nam;
  2. Support and assist the Regional Manager of FAO ECTAD RAP to deliver select initiatives of the RAP ECTAD program in Viet Nam;
  3. Under the supervision of the FAO Regional Project Coordinator, leading the implementation of the Safety across Asia For the global Environment (SAFE) activities in Viet Nam:
  • Overseeing the overall direction of the SAFE project and inform on the complementarity/synergy with similar activities conducted by FAO and other relevant partners
  • Engaging with Government counterparts to ensure cooperation, promote partnership and foster trust among all parties involved.
  • Engaging with all stakeholders in the country including private sector, academia and NGOs and promotes the participation of selected professional to the events organized under SAFE and ensures a strong strategic dialogue
  • Coordinating the field activities through the engagement with all relevant stakeholders and prepares a detailed workplan, with financial estimates
  • Facilitating the engagement of international experts operating under SAFE with government counterparts
  • Coordinating and meeting on regular basis (at least monthly) with the UNODC National Project Officer to promote effective delivery of SAFE activities
  • Providing written inputs to document the field activities and the dialogues, with a view to ensure the agreement of the Government counterparts to the recommendations at the end of each activity
  • Acting as the Secretariat of the country advisory committees, to ensure participation, engagement and follow-up for all relevant meetings;
  1. Develop scientific conference posters, presentations and manuscripts for publication;
  2. Provide technical inputs to reports, events, and support field missions;
  3. Facilitate and support inter-sectoral collaboration and social-behaviour change communication; and
  4. Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in in conservation management, wildlife biology, forestry or other related fields
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience working in project coordination and management
  • Work experience with government authorities in Viet Nam on the management of wildlife conservation or wildlife captive breeding or wildlife trade
  • Working knowledge of English with excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge of common office software applications
  • National of Vietnam
