Overview

Provide technical expertise for project development and implementation

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (master's or higher level) in agriculture, sustainable development, international development, international relations or closely related field, monitoring and evaluation
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in project management and/or coordination of projects, or related disciplines with an international or national NGO, government organization, or UN organization in a multi-cultural office environment is required;
  • Working knowledge of English and Georgian
  • National of Georgia or resident in the country with a regular work permit

Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The National Project Coordinator shall operate under the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative for Georgia (FEGEO) and International Agri-food Systems Specialist, under technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), in close collaboration with the relevant technical divisions in FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) and international/national consultants of FEGEO.

Technical Focus

Provide technical expertise for the appropriate planning, development and implementation of the FAO project and timely delivery of the project outputs.

Tasks and responsibilities

The position will primarily support FAO’s work of the Joint programme on “Strengthening SDG Localization in Georgia” to empower local governments and communities in Georgia to be agents of catalytic changes for achieving global 2030 goals, with a particular focus on food systems. The incumbent has the objective of supporting the coordination of activities throughout the entire project. More specifically the assignment shall include the following tasks and responsibilities:

• Support the International Agri-food Systems Specialist in implementing project activities as outlined in the project document and work plan. • Support FAO colleaguesthe communication with stakeholders in Khashuri and Poti municipalities, including local communities and private sector entities, to ensure their participation in project activities, particularly in awareness-raising events and multi-stakeholder consultations. • Support the organization and communication for meetings, ensuring effective liaison with meeting organizers for smooth delivery of meetings. • Coordinate logistical arrangements for conducting awareness-raising events and consultations. • Assist the International Agri-Food Systems Specialist in diagnosing agri-food and food waste systems for planning awareness-raising workshops and multi-stakeholder meetings in Poti and Khashuri municipalities. • Support the International Agri-food Systems Specialist in updating the municipal waste management plans for Khoni and Poti, in line with food waste management hierarchy principles outlined in Article 6, Section 4 of the Law of Georgia on Food Loss and Waste Reduction and Food Donation. • Assist in developing and disseminating materials for awareness-raising events, in collaboration with other consultants. • Collect and analyse relevant policies, reports, and literature from Poti and Khashuri municipalities to support project activities, as needed. • Gather and analyse data to track progress on project indicators, ensuring accurate reporting on achievements. • Support regular monitoring of project progress, outcomes, and risks, ensuring alignment with project goals. • Provide data/ documents translation and analysis to support project implementation, monitoring and reporting needs. • Participate in meetings with the project team to discuss the status of project activities. • Support the International Agri-food Systems Specialist to provide technical advice and support needed to the UNDP consultant working on VLRs to ensure that food systems-related issues are adequately integrated in the VLR process and addressed in the final document. • Draft press releases as needed to communicate project milestones and achievements. • Ensure lessons learned and best practices from project implementation are documented, shared, and incorporated into UNSDCF (United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework) implementation reports. • Assist in preparing reports on good practices, including programme performance, relevance, efficiency, and sustainability, as well as effective partnerships and collaborative relationships under UNSDCF/CPF. • Assist in preparing the terminal report documenting project progress, outcomes, and results. • Perform any other tasks as required to ensure the success of the project.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Experience in project management/coordination and M&E; • Understanding of agri-food systems concepts and Georgian agriculture policy context and priorities; • Experience in organizing stakeholder meetings or workshops with national and international participants; • Experience in multi-stakeholder coordination for development projects; • Excellent capacity to work with a wide range of actors (UN staff, national counterparts, civil society, private sector); • Excellent verbal, written communication and translation skills • High level of digital literacy and ability to use software critical for smoot implementation of the project; • Positive, constructive attitude and good ability to work in a team, even under difficult circumstances; • Sense of responsibility, result orientation, and ability to deliver quality products timely.
