Overview

Support project development on pesticide management and sustainable practices.

You have:

  • University degree in agriculture/agronomy, agricultural chemistry, plant production, or other related field.
  • At least 10 years of demonstrated experience in pesticide management.
  • Working knowledge of English in speaking and writing, good command of Russian will be an asset.
  • National of Uzbekistan or a legal resident in the country with a valid work permit.

Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. The national specialist will work in the frame of the FAO-managed project “Support to country programme development on sustainable agriculture” and is to provide support to implementation of the project and develop the necessary assessments and reports on the current status of the use of registered pesticides in the country and assessment of the Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs), moreover coordinate the development of an environmental and social risk assessment and coordination of the development of an Assessment on infrastructure and laboratory capacities for pesticides management and pest control.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO country representative, FAO Budget Holder, the technical supervision by the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), and international consultant.

Technical Focus

Provide support to improve institutional capacities for the sound management of pesticides; collect data on hazardous wastes from the agriculture sector (obsolete pesticides) and their current management; and promote sustainable practices in the agricultural sector to reduce the use of pesticides. Moreover, contribute to the finalization of the relevant documentation on environmental and social risk assessment for the Contribution Agreement “Sound Management of Hazardous Chemicals Technical Assistance Program”

Tasks and responsibilities

•Support the international consultant on review of the pesticide’s legislation and institutional framework and other assessments •Support the international consultant on the development of Environmental and Social Management Plan and connected documentation. •Support the country office in the organization of relevant country consultations. •Organization and conducting of the consultation and validation WSs. •Review activity reports before submittal to LTO. •Participate in project meetings, information events, webinars, etc. as needed. •Support development of communication products. •Perform other related duties as required.
