NATIONAL PROJECT COORDINATOR
Organizational Setting
For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in the Philippines, operational and technical guidance FAO Headquarters and FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO-RAP) in close coordination with the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) of the Philippines, and implementing partners (Philippine College of Veterinary Epidemiologists (PCVE).
Technical Focus
The project supports the workforce development in veterinary epidemiology in the national veterinary services. The key activity will be to roll out a four-week long Field Epidemiology Training for Veterinarians (FETV). It will be accomplished through undertaking a scoping mission to assess training needs in epidemiology and assess veterinary epidemiology capacity, training programme's development and tailoring based on the above assessments at HQ level, the four-week long FETV training and mentoring support.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Spearhead the overall implementation of the GCP/GLO/892/USA project in the Philippines and with support from FAO Philippines, coordinate with relevant stakeholders and project personnel; • Coordinate the conduct of the Training Needs Assessment component of the project, e, Philippines CVO, and FAO HQ on its implementation; • Organize the conduct of the FAO Epidemiology Mapping Tool in the Philippines, which includes initiation of the activity with the FAO, collation of the EMT Assessors Team from FAO and Philippines’ Veterinary Se/rvices, prepare and conduct of survey; coordination of in-country field mission, assist in the preparation of reports, and assist in the organization of a national EMT workshop; • Manage the conduct of the Veterinary Epidemiology training with RVC, FAO and Philippines CVO, including the face to face training and the mentorship support to trainees; • With support from FAO Philippines, coordinate the conduct of the Closeout meeting with various stakeholders on the activities conducted; • Assist in the development and finalization of Veterinary Epidemiology Workforce Development for the Philippines; • Perform other tasks as required; • Prepare and Submit End of Assignment Report
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Academic degree (MSc or post-graduate) in Veterinary Science and Medicine/Animal science/ Animal health and production and other post graduate specific work or qualifications in veterinary epidemiology, and animal disease prevention and control. • At least 5 years of relevant experience in project management, veterinary education • Working knowledge of English • A national of the Philippines or with a regular working permit in the Philippines

Technical/Functional Skills
• Strong analytical skills and excellent command of database and programming or other methods related to field of expertise • He/she must have intermediate to advanced computer skills in the use of office productivity software, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and related software applications and development. • Familiarity with FAO operational procedures is an advantage
