National Project Coordinator

Organizational Setting FAO’s work in post-disaster and emergency situations emphasizes the protection and rehabilitation of agricultural livelihoods. Following the loss of life, livelihoods and destruction caused by Cyclone Idai in March 2019, The World Bank has availed USD 75 million to finance the Zimbabwe Idai Recovery Project. The ZIRP is a multi-sectoral project addressing both early and mid-term recovery needs in livelihoods, health, education, agriculture. FAO is implementing the agricultural component of the ZIRP focusing on three priority areas; (i) restoration of crop production; (ii) restoration of livestock production; (iii) rehabilitation of irrigation schemes.

Reporting Lines Working under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Zimbabwe, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative-Programme, the National Project Coordinator will provide expert leadership to the project implementation team (PIT) for satisfactory delivery of the project.

Technical Focus The technical areas/profiles covered will be as follows: • Project management and coordination • Early recovery and resilience building in agriculture • Agriculture value chains • Capacity building

Tasks and responsibilities • Assume overall technical responsibility for the smooth implementation of the project activities • Coordinate field level activities of implementing partners to ensure all activities are implemented on time and to the required standard. • Monitor activity implementation to ensure delivery according to the work plan timeline and support monitoring of expenditures to ensure project-related costs stay within the allocated budget; • Provide technical backstopping to ensure consistency among the various components of the project and related activities, as indicated in the project document; • Supervise the procurement of all goods and services for the project • Ensure regular communication and collaboration with all project stakeholders, • Contribute to the development of information and communication materials and coordinate knowledge management activities • Prepare and submit reports on progress of project’s implementation as well as the final report in line with donor requirements and guidelines • Manage the human, material and financial resources allocated to the project for efficient project implementation and delivery. • Perform any other related duties as may be required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements • An advanced degree in Agriculture Economics, Agricultural sciences or related fields • Minimum of ten years of relevant experience in management position in the agriculture and food security sectors of Zimbabwe • Excellent understanding of the agricultural sectors of Zimbabwe. • Nationals of Zimbabwe.
