National Project Assistant - Palau
Organizational Setting
The FAO Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands is located in Apia, Samoa and covers the 14 Pacific Island countries. The project “Enhancing livelihoods and food security through nearshore fish aggregating device fisheries in the Pacific” is funded by the Government of Japan for a three-year period and includes seven Small Island Developed States in the Pacific (Fiji, Kiribati, Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Tuvalu and Vanuatu).
The project will focus on the safe development of nearshore fish aggregation device (FAD) fisheries supported by co-management approaches and the development of value adding and alternative livelihoods to diversity income sources. The four main areas of intervention are:
- strengthening and developing community nearshore FAD programmes to provide improved access to high value species;
- structuring and strengthening of fishers’ associations and cooperatives;
- developing livelihood opportunities and revenue generating activities and products; and
- improving safety at sea for fishers of nearshore fish aggregation devices.
Reporting Lines
The National Project Assistant will be under the overall supervision of the Project Technical Team Leader and will work closely with the Project Operations Specialist, Project Consultants and National Project Coordinator.
Technical Focus
The National Project Assistant provides operational, administrative and finance support to the implementation and monitoring of the project, for timely delivery of its outcomes and outputs.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Assist the Project Technical Team Leader and National Project Coordinator with the implementation and monitoring of the project activities;
- Assist with the logistics and planning of project field activities which may include data and information collection;
- Assist in the coordination with different stakeholders;
- Provide logistical support for in-country trainings and workshops and the missions of FAO staff and consultants including arrangement of necessary travel documents (ex. Visa, etc.);
- Provide support on in country procurement including monitoring of its progress (from securing quotes, delivery and payment) applying the FAO procurement rules;
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly progress report of the project; and
- Provide support in project technical activities as required
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor degree or technical diploma in fisheries related subject, marine science, natural resources management or related field;
At least 3 to 4 years’ experience working in project management, administrative, logistics or operations
- Experience in fisheries and related subjects is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of English language
