This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The UNDP Environment, Climate Change and DRR Portfolio`s support for environmental management and nationally owned sustainable development pathways including the mainstreaming of environmental management into the national and local development processes.

Recently, UNDP has commenced a project that aims to fast-track readiness and early actions to implement the early actions to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) under the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) through i) ensuring the national biodiversity targets are aligned with the post-2020-GBF, ii) enhancing and improving the monitoring and reporting systems and transparency frameworks, iii) identifying the necessary actions for policy alignment and coherence on nature-related sectors, iv) defining biodiversity finance gaps, and identifying opportunities for resource mobilization.

The UN Youth Volunteer will work under the overall supervision of the National Projects` Coordination Specialist at the Environment, Climate Change and DRR Portfolio and in close collaboration with the Head of Nature Conservation Directorate at the Ministry of Environment. She/he will be based at the Ministry of Environment premises. The UN Youth Volunteer as part of the Environment, Climate Change and DRR team is expected to support the day-to-day management, coordination and supervision of the implementation of GBF project and will ensure effective and timely implementation of the project’s workplan, as well as, provides administrative and technical assistance required to the Head of Nature Conservation Directorate at the Ministry of Environment.

National UN Youth Volunteers in Jordan are entitled to:

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 854.8;

The UN Youth Volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks: • Provide support in implementing and monitoring the GBF project`s activities; • Participate in the delivery of the project’s outcomes and activities in accordance with the project document and agreed work plan; • Support in collecting relevant data and information and ensuring that they are validated and populated afterwards in the Clearing House Mechanism; • Assist in developing and submitting annual detailed work plans for the national implementation of the project and delivery of outputs; • Provide administrative (e.g. meeting minutes taking) and Logistic support for the project team; • Support the documentation of internal project meetings and organize workshops and event related to ongoing assignments; • Ensure the constant update of the project’s archiving system; • Provide support for the communication file of the UNDP Environment, Climate Change and DRR portfolio, through ensuring visibility and outreach of the project activities, in consultation with the project team and communication officer; • Provide financial management support necessary for the implementation of the project activities; • Organize and participate in related workshops and seminars; • Perform any other duties assigned by the UNDP Environment, Climate Change and DRR Portfolio and Nature Conservation Directorate at the Ministry of Environment.

(Up to 3 years) areas related to the environment, engineering, biodiversity, natural resources management, sustainability, natural sciences, or related fields at the national level. Experience with the development organizations is an asset, and; - Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; - Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; - Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; - Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; - Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; - Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; - Sound security awareness.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
