The incumbent of the post will be responsible for the management and implementation of activities and projects within the field of Social and Human Sciences in Brazil. S/he will be expected to contribute to the realization of targets set out in the Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Sector Strategy and will be expected to play a significant role in resource optimization and mobilization. The incumbent, liaising with various stakeholders, will also carry out actions in the advancement of joint development initiatives such as the Common Country Assessment, Country Programme Document and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The incumbent will provide support to the Director of the Office with meeting Programme objectives. Essential responsibilities will include: Long Description ---------------- Programme and Project Management: - Provide Programmatic inputs in support of the planning and implementation of SHS activities and projects, with particular consideration given to themes on Social Inclusion, Youth, Sports, Ethics of Science, Intercultural Dialogue, Management of Social Transformations (MOST) and Antiracism, among others. Monitor and report on the outcomes observed in relation to expected results and propose innovative solutions to any challenges encountered; - Participate and represent the Office in relevant United Nations Thematic Groups, as part of efforts to move forward on country priorities and the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Long Description ---------------- Advice and Knowledge Management: - Support the Director of the Office and the Programme Coordinator for SHS in ensuring Programme coherence and alignment with strategic priorities. Prepare Office contributions to institutional planning mechanisms including the Medium-Term Strategy (C/4), the Programme and Budget (C/5) and reports to the Governing Bodies, other Field Offices/Institutes, etc; - Maintain a knowledge base of the Programme and assist with policy development through the identification of and familiarity with available authoritative research across relevant domains. Provide information and data for the preparation of documents and analyses; - Proactively promote the activities and projects of the SHS Sector, enhancing the visibility of the Office and the Organization. Compile news and information on Programme results in Brazil for dissemination via both conventional media outlets and on-line channels including the UNESCO website and Intranet. Long Description ---------------- Resource Mobilization: - Contribute to the formulation of the Office resource mobilization strategy and its biennial implementation plans in collaboration with other Programme Officers, in particular, develop interdisciplinary concepts and project proposals. Networking and Partnership: - Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to discuss developments and exchange best practices. - Create synergies and partnerships with local and international actors to advance SHS work.
