The incumbent will work within the framework of UNESCO’s Medium-Term Strategy (C/4), the Quadrennial programme and Biennial budget (C/5) and global developments priorities, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of UNESCO’s Regular Programme activities as well as extra-budgetary projects in the field of Social and Hulan Sciences for the UNESCO Almaty Cluster countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan); as well as for relevant UNESCO’s contribution to the Common Country Analyses and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, programme coordination and implementation. S/he will contribute and support the effective implementation of the UNESCO SHS Sector Strategy and will also play a significant role in policy and strategy direction of the office, in resource optimization and mobilization. Within this context, the incumbent’s main tasks will be to: Long Description ---------------- - Assists the Director of Office in Almaty in the coordinaiton of programme preparation and implementation of Social and Human Sciences Sector programmes and projects following the guidance, recommendation and instructions of the Director of Office and the relevant Divisions/Sections of SHS Sector in Headquarters to ensure coherence and the signifcant impact of the Office’s activities. - Provides input - including data disaggregated to the extent possible by gender - and statistics in the preparation of reports on the implementation of programmes and projects of SHS Sector. - Assists in planning, developing and implementing outreach strategies aimed at programme expansion applying human rights based approach and gender equality guiding principles and standards; supports the organization of consultations with national authorities. Assists and liaises with the stakeholders of UNESCO Office in Almaty for the implementation of the SHS programmes and projects. Maintains these contacts with assurance of creditability. Long Description ---------------- - Assists in planning and implementing programme activities included in C/5s by preparing new project options and proposals to be funded by contributions received through extrabudgetary funding in order to reinforce programmes. Assists in developing approaches to raise extrabudgetary funds, and assists in planning and implementing projects financed by these funds. - Assists in representation of the Office in the relevant United Nations (UN) Thematic Groups and UN Results Group to reflect UNESCO’s contributions in line with country priorities. - Maintains a knowledge base and institutional memory of the programme; contributes to policy through identifying and analyzing available research; provides information and data for the preparation of background documents and reports; and facilitates exchange of best practices. Provides regular news and information of SHS programmes in Almaty for both conventional and on-line publication through UNESCO's websites.
