OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Communicable Disease Surveillance, Forecasting and Response (CSR) unit is responsible for providing technical and strategic support to the Federal Ministry of Health in Sudan for- (i) building health systems capacity for detection, verification and containment of infectious disease outbreaks or any other public health events of international concern including avian and pandemic influenza as well as other emerging public health threats; (ii) strengthening epidemiological and laboratory surveillance for epidemic and pandemic prone communicable diseases; (iii) improving public health preparedness for any emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases with epidemic and pandemic potentials;

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of WR-Sudan and overall guidance of the Regional Adviser for CSR/EMRO, the incumbent will perform the following duties:--> Capture, verify- and interpret surveillance information related to communicable diseases in Sudan.Provide technical assistance and support to the Federal Ministry of Health in communicable disease surveillance and response, epidemic preparedness, capacity building and rapid response to disease outbreaks and health emergencies.Strengthen routine influenza surveillance capacity of the Federal Ministry of Health including: Development of guidelines Development of standard procedures for data collection, analysis and reporting; Dissemination of regular influenza surveillance reports of epidemiological and virolgoical data.Provide technical support to the National Influenza Center in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Eastern Mediterranean to improve their capacity to collect, analyze, and report routine influenza surveillance data according to regional surveillance standards, including:TrainingTechnical adviceAdvocacy Support for shipment of influenza specimens to Global Influenza Surveillance NetworkCoordinate full implementation of regional / global platforms for influenza epidemiological and virological data sharing (FluID (Flu Information Decision) and FluNet (Flu Network) which include:Coordinate set up of FluID accounts for Federal Ministry of HealthOrganize training workshop for the use of FluIDEnsure regular and timely reporting of epidemiological data in FluID and virolgoical data in FluNet -Organize meeting/workshops with competent health authorities for strengthening infection prevention and control programme in health-care settings for acute respiratory diseases of epidemic and pandemic potentials; --> Work in close collaboration and cooperation with WHO field Offices, state Ministries of Health, other UN agencies, NGOs and health partner agencies. * Produce regular epidemiological reports and other relevant reports

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in Medicine Desirable: Masters degree in Public Health

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years experience in communicable disease control programs with expertise in epidemiology and surveillance of communicable diseases. Experience in an international organization in proposal writing and reporting, budgeting and procurement. Desirable:

Skills

Theoretical and practical knowledge of public health, communicable disease control, planning and policy development, analysing data, concise reporting, and surveillance of communicable diseases. Managerial skills for the development, implementation and analysis of surveillance projects and activities, including budget programming and control. 3. Strong professional oral and writing skills in English and Arabic includingthe development of reports, oral presentations and technical and advocacy documents for consideration at the highest levels of the Ministry and/ or the Organization

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 55,473 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
