OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

1. Decrease morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable illnesses.

2. Enhance Ministry of Health (MOH) capacities in formulation, development, implementation, and evaluation of national communicable disease programs.

3. Assist national authorities in strengthening the health sector contribution to achieving universal access to communicable disease prevention, treatment, and care

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Manage the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) programme.

2. Provide technical guidance to implement necessary activities in coordination with the MOH to maintain Iraq polio-free.

3. Coordinate with MOH and partners to Plan and implement the technical and operational aspects of elimination/eradication strategies of measles and Hepatitis B in coordination with the MOH

4. Provide technical advice for introducing a new vaccine for the prevention of communicable diseases through developing a framework for introduction new vaccine with support from EMRO.

5. Provide guidance to enhance the technical capacities of national authorities in the development of effective epidemiological and related services on Neglected Tropical Diseases, including integrated vector management.

6. Monitor the timely assessments, analysis of data, and report writing to ensure that Iraq meets the IHR 2005 regulations and implementation of different guiding principles of IHR 2005.

7. Build national capacities on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and other priority activities to support the establishment and implementation of effective communicable disease surveillance systems.8. Plan and conduct training activities in disease prevention and control for communicable diseases

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First university degree in Medicine Desirable: Postgraduate degree in Public Health.

Experience

Essential: At least five years of relevant experience in public health. Desirable: Previous experience in administrative or programme areas in WHO or a UN agency, preferably in a developing country.

Skills

  • Ability to coordinate, plan and implement activities; conduct training.
  • Monitor and analyze data and present results.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of principles, practices, methodology, and techniques in public health and epidemiology, and control of communicable diseases, special knowledge in viral Hepatitis.
  • Broad knowledge of International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005: concept and activities.
  • Good knowledge of WHO procedures and policies

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 57,321 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
