OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The overall objective is to improve the environmental, occupational health and WASH services including the issues related to emergency response (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic)

The program objectives are:

1. Assessing environmental and occupational health needs of affected/at risk groups, identify priority needs and interventions;

2. Promote the use of evidence, WHO technical and policy guidelines and international best practices to support Iran's policy development, implementation and monitoring response plans

3. Coordinating and monitoring environmental health, relief and recovery efforts with focus on WASH and waste management during routine and emergency situations

4. Promote sharing of knowledge and experiences in Iran with other countries regionally and globally on environmental health topics among national and regional experts, academics, and international agencies for effective communication and exchanged expertise

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Ensure timely and proper implementation of WHO activities in the area of environmental health and occupational health and WASH Services in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and other sectors.

2. Conduct assessment for WASH vector control and infection control inventory and needs in the health facilities.

3. Recommend suitable WASH interventions in response to identified priorities, including the list of required material, cost estimation and project proposals.

4. Collaborate with the ministry of health and relevant ministries to strengthen their capacity in the areas of environmental and occupational health.

5. Suggest recommendations for corrective measures -where required- to offset or reduce adverse environmental and social impacts.

6. Identify potential stakeholders in relevant sectors to promote leadership and evidence-based policies in the areas of environmental and occupational health and Create/adapt/package evidence to support dialogues with these stakeholders, including holding symposia/workshop on relevant topics to environmental and occupational health.

7. Organize technical meetings/workshops with national counterparts and various stakeholders and assist with substantive preparations.

8. Collaborate with national stakeholders for the WHO's global and regional reports/surveys on relevant public health areas.

9. Prepare regular monitoring reports and report main findings and other ad-hoc reports produced by the country office.10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in Environmental Sciences, or related fields. Desirable: Special trainings on the areas of project development and monitoring with focus on environment and occupational health

Experience

Essential: At least two years of experience in environmental health. Experience in project development and management. Desirable: Experience of managing environmental health projects. Knowledge of WHO/EHA mandate, goals, Emergency programs, and response. Experience in UN Organization/INGOs/NGOs.

Skills

--> Demonstrated technical skills and Knowledge of environmental and occupational issues (with focus on emergency situation) and their health impacts

--> Knowledge of climate change impacts

--> Demonstrated ability in managing projects on environmental and occupational health

--> Able to organize and conduct health education sessions;

--> Concrete stress management skills in pressing situations and conflicting priorities.

--> Knowledge of WHO and or other UN Agencies rules, manuals, practices and procedures is an asset

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 38,376 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
