The Position:

The Communications Analyst will work to improve content, reach, design and coverage of Youth programme, in particular the Safeguard Young People Programme (SYP), strategies and activities through social media and other communications platforms. The Communications Analyst is expected to be a highly motivated and creative individual with experience and a passion for working for and with youth and ensuring young people’s knowledge and skills towards adoption of healthier sexual behaviour in Eastern and Southern Africa is increased.

You will report directly to the SYP Regional Programme Coordinator and work closely with the UNFPA Regional Communications Advisor.

Job Purpose:

The SYP programme has a strategic focus on social behavioral change communication and the use of social media strategies and other digital solutions to deliver SRHR information linked to service delivery to adolescents and young people.

UNFPA ESARO supported the development and launch of a youth engagement mobisite called “TuneMe” (TuneMe.org) as well as the TuneMe App. The platform supports young people in accessing relevant health related information including sexual and reproductive health and rights. It features a ‘youth friendly clinic finder’, with embedded GPS capabilities, as well as a feedback mechanism to report on the quality of services.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of SYP Regional Programme Coordinator and working closely with the UNFPA Regional Communication Advisor, the Communications Analyst, will ensure the further development and implementation of the SYP Programme communications strategy in the region and ensure that interventions are implemented in the context of the SYP Programme’s priorities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree) in relevant areas – communications, journalism, public relations or other related field from a reputable institution.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of progressively professional experience and proven track record in developing and implementing social media strategies;
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media;
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios;
  • Good knowledge and experience in Graphic design and production of info-graphics;
  • Previous proven experience in documenting promising or best practices;
  • Expertise in programmes such as Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office basics (Word, Excel PowerPoint); Photography experience and basic skills in video editing and production are a plus;
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, in an international and multicultural environment;
  • Excellent emotional management skills.

Languages:

Fluency in oral and written English. Knowledge of French or Portuguese is an asset.
