Background

The Lebanese Working Group on Palestinian Refugees, which became later known as the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC), was created in November 2005 by the Council of Ministers, in response to the goal set by the Government of Lebanon (GoL) to improve the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. The UNDP project seeks to strengthen the capacity of the LPDC (2020-2023) and to enable the Government of Lebanon to set up a comprehensive policy on the Palestinian refugee issues, with a view to improving their living conditions. Project components include: • Output 1: Strengthen Dialogue facilitation and conflict prevention capacity; • Output 2: Support Legislative Reform agenda; • Output 3: Strengthen strategic Communication and Coordination roles; • Output 4: Increase Policy research capabilities; Under the Output 3, the LPDC has been working on its communication component, which consists of developing the communication strategy, building and designing the website, and enhancing the reach of its news supplement “Jousour”, which aims to improve the relations between the two communities through evidence-based journalism. The primary objective of Output 3 is to In this context, UNDP requires the services of a “Copy/Content Writer” to support the LPDC project in adapting its external communications to effectively communicate with different audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the LPDC Project Manager and the LPDC Communications Advisor, the consultant will: Content writing - Thoroughly review LPDC’s needs, public image and target audiences through available publications (online and print), research materials and interviews with subject matter experts. - Develop a content strategy for LPDC website and other communication channels. The strategy should clearly outline the types of content to be produced to reach specific audiences. Content strategy should include a detailed content plan. The copy/content writer shall act as a primary focal point for the implementation of the strategy during the contract duration - Research, write, edit and publish English and Arabic language materials including blog posts, opinion pieces, briefs, news and speeches for digital platforms that are 2 captivating and SEO friendly. Curate stories, images and videos in LPDC website. Ensure accurate and consistent web presentation of stories, headlines and images in Arabic and English, including proofreading of texts. - Deepen cooperation with external research entities. Engage with external partners and research community to collaborate on research. Work with copy/content writers of other organizations to ensure synergies and coordinated communication efforts. Review partner materials to be published and/or translated on the LPDC website - Collaborate with video, photo and social media colleagues to package multimedia content effectively and compellingly Other - Act as a principal focal point for content publication on the LPDC website - Enforce brand tone and voice guidelines for all digital content and copy - Provide advice to LPDC on further development of its outreach and communications - Lead the process of building a content archive for all project content produced to date, including news articles, publications, press releases - Develop a training for project personnel on the medium-term (1-2 years) implementation of the content strategy

Required Skills and Experience

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, digital marketing or a related field

Years of Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the field of Communications /Journalism including the experience in producing, editing and disseminating English and Arabic language content for media outlets, international brands, political parties, NGOs, or other international institutions
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research to develop original content
  • Experience working with communications related to refugees and/or humanitarian issues is an advantage, but not required.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems and other tools for online publishing and distribution of content is an advantage, but not required
