Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Global Action on Green Development of Special Agricultural Products (SAPs): “One Country One Priority Product” (OCOP) has been initiated and developed to contribute to achieving SDGs (especially SDG 2 and SDG 1); promote the implementation of the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-2031 by delivering results of key Programme Priority Areas (PPAs) under the aspiration of Better Production; and position FAO at country level in formulating the Common Country Analysis (CCA) and the UN Cooperation Framework and in implementing the Country Programming Framework (CPF) in alignment with the SDGs, FAO Strategic Framework and National Priorities.

Trinidad and Tobago has selected Cocoa as its Special Agricultural Product (SAP) and will be implementing an OCOP project as one of the first-round demonstration countries.

The project aims to elucidate the present status of sustainability of the local cocoa industry, understand and quantify drivers of unsustainability, develop indicators for sustainability along the cocoa value chain and support the development of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) compliant supply chains, branding and market penetration.

Reporting Lines

The National OCOP Coordinator will report to the FAO Representative for Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, the Lead Technical Officer LTO), the Technical Adviser at the Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP), the OCOP National Focal Points, and the OCOP Project Manager.

Tasks and responsibilities

- In collaboration with the Project Manager, LTO and FAO Representative organize follow up meetings to validate technical arears and modalities for implementation, and work plan. - Assist project countries in establishing their National Task Force (NTF) to implement OCOP. - Liaise with the Letter of Agreement (LoA) implementation partners and monitor the delivery of outputs and conduct activities of the LoA. - Coordinate the activities of the project in close collaboration with the project team and liaise with FAO on all matters related to the project. - Prepare reports on activities undertaken, problems met and possible solutions. - Prepare communication, advocacy materials and outreach activities at project country. - In collaboration with the Project Manager, LTO and FAO Representative, manage the identification and implementation of training workshops. - Participate in the project workshops, trainings and policy dialogues at national, regional and global level. - Conduct desk study to identify best practices and recommended technologies for the transition to green, efficient, innovative, productive and resilient production and develop indicators towards moving the cocoa industry towards a sustainable, resilient and low carbon footprint cocoa value chain. - Develop survey instrument to understand the status of sustainability and resilience. - Conduct Gap analysis and identification of drivers of unsustainability, lack of resilience, carbon footprint and suitable options for the transition. - Assist in conducting the Regional Launch Event and Workshop in implementing the OCOP country projects. - Undertake field missions as and when required. - Contribute to the organization of the Final Workshop to discuss the way forward. - Prepare the draft terminal report of the project. - Perform other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree (B.Sc., M.Sc. or higher) in agriculture, • At least 8 years of experience in training and extension in sustainable plant production, project coordinating, and related fields. • Working knowledge (level C) of English. • National of Trinidad and Tobago

• Experience in preparing and delivering training workshops • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills • Experience with green production of cocoa would be an asset.
