This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Following the adoption of the Strategic Plan, and specifically pursuing ‘strengthened climate change action and improved urban environment’ UN-Habitat Yemen Country Office developed a Green Climate Fund (GCF) readiness proposal for Yemen, which has recently been approved by the GCF. Besides that, UN-Habitat is developing an Adaptation Fund (AF) project proposal for Yemen

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Country Programme of Yemen or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer-National-local governance and data collection Specialist for the Yemen GCF readiness project will be responsible for the following duties:

• To coordinate with Lahj and Aden governorate staff on data collection / assessment activities in Lahj and Aden • Collect data in Lahj and Aden governorates required for a hydrology study and Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment. This requires conducting measurements and consultations in the field. • Support any other assessments required in Lahj and Aden required for the project. • Support project workshops and trainings and any other support to project activities required.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs:

As an active [UN-Habitat] team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to [UN-Habitat] and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:

• Monthly activities reports; • Data collection report required for the hydrology study • Data collection report required for the climate change vulnerability assessment • Other reports as requested. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, • such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

UN personnel in Yemen operate in a volatile security environment. In Aden, personnel work in secured compound with limited access outside of the city, which usually can only be done with stringent clearances and depending on the destination, a military escort. Aden is a non-family duty station and is classified as security risk moderate. UN personnel in Aden live in Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) compliant residences outside of the UN compound.
