You have:
- Advanced university degree in Animal Husbandry/Dairy Science/Animal Science/Animal Nutrition or related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in livestock production including farmers/agribusiness development having preferably the experience in developing countries.
- Nationality of Bangladesh.
Organizational Setting
The FAO Representation, Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.
The FAO of the United Nations in Bangladesh has been providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Bangladesh through several projects, many of them have components of livestock production. FAO Bangladesh has been planning to provide TA to the implementation of Livestock and Dairy Development Project (TA-LDDP) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL). FAO Bangladesh will recruit a National Livestock Production Specialist for the upcoming UTF project of LDDP.
Reporting Lines
The National Livestock Production Specialist is an SC 9 and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader. The National Livestock Production Specialist keeping close liaison with the Project Director and the Chief Technical Coordinator (CTC) of LDDP and other relevant project staff, the representative of partner organization of public, private or development organization or the field staff work for the implementation of project activities, and following technical supervision of the LTO and the guidance of the AGAG will undertake the following:
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to achieving objectives and timely delivery of outputs
- Assist liaisons with regional and global organizations
- Provide technical support to project teams; development of objectives and project plans;
- Prepare detailed work plans and schedules for completing projects activities in time following agreements;
- Organize field visits, FGDs and stakeholder consultation meeting in different regions of the country and assess filed requirements
- Taking support of subject matter experts, draft different policy documents using primary and secondary data and information
- Assist revision and editing of documents to make them global standard both in terms of content and language
- Assist quality output as per assignment of the experts
- Validate the document through organizing national workshop and obtain comments of PMU-LDDP
- Monitor, supervise and provide technical guidance to activity implementation
- Supervise and support implementation of the tasks of the peers
- Liaise with the PMU-LDDP and other concerned organizations and agencies related to activity implementations
- Provides specific policy advice on technical matters related to livestock production;
- Providing backstopping support for timely implementation of projects activities;
- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls in the implementation of project activities
- Assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly/half yearly progress reports;
- Any other responsibility assigned by the FAO Representative or Team Leader.

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Animal Husbandry/Dairy Science/Animal Science/Animal Nutrition or related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in livestock production including farmers/agribusiness development having preferably the experience in developing countries in the design and management of agribusinesses.
- Nationality of Bangladesh.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Proven experience in the preparation of technical documents on livestock/agribusiness taking national and global perspectives
- Demonstrated profound experience in livestock production both in public and private sector.
- Have knowledge in diversified disciplines of livestock and dairy production, product diversification of milk and meat, feeding and nutrition, housing and management and value chains.
- Proven experience in evidence based livestock policy and standard guideline development
- Proven experience and knowledge in agribusiness development and demonstrated experience in entrepreneur development
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of livestock production considering the agro-ecological regions of Bangladesh
- Demonstrated proven knowledge of climate resilient livestock production
- Have proven knowledge of planning and implementation of international donor projects
Practical experience of goods, services and works procurements
Proven skills in programme monitoring and coordination;
- Supervise and support implementation of the tasks of the peers
Liaise with the PMU-LDDP and other concerned organizations and agencies related to activity implementations
Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
- Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and spoken) and computer and ICT skills.
