To achieve these national goals, the Teacher Policy Action Plan (TPAP) was formulated aiming at providing clear direction for systematic reform and implementation of teacher policies. With funding from the Global Partnership for Education, the MoEYS and UNESCO is implementing the Strengthening Teacher Education Programmes in Cambodia (STEPCam), for the period 2018 -2022, to institutionalize continuous professional development for teachers in Cambodia, as envisaged in the MoEYS’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Policy. The objective of the programme is to improve the quality of teaching to improve student learning outcomes, providing assistance at different levels: system, trainers, teachers, and teaching and learning environment. STEPCam focuses on a set of interventions across four key components: Component 1: Development and implementation of a continuous professional development system Component 2: In-service training (INSET) for teachers of early grade Mathematics and Khmer Reading, using new teaching techniques, a student-centered approach and mentoring, Component 3: Upgrading qualifications of teacher educators at Provincial Teacher Training Centres (PTTCs) Component 4: Renovation of 11 PTTCs, creating a better learning environment for students and teachers The UNESCO Phnom Penh office is seeking a National Intern with a background in the education sector to work directly with the STEPCam team and provide support across STEPCam components with a focus on programme communications and visibility. Long Description ---------------- **Scope of Assignment** Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Representative to Cambodia and Head of Office, the direct supervision of the Chief of Education Unit and in close coordination with the STEPCam Programme Manager, the Intern will provide support to the following: 1\) Assist the Project Officer and Education Analyst to develop campaign materials, including posters, brochures, banners, short articles and necessary logistic arrangements for STEPCam visibility events. 2\) Provide English-Khmer-English translation of STEPCam documents for internal and external official communications, including administrative letters, meeting agendas, M&E tools and communication materials for social media 3\) Support the translation of data collection tools as well as the processing of survey data. Transcribe interviews and focus groups conducted in Khmer and translate these into English. 4\) Assist Project Officer in proof-reading Khmer version of Grade 3 Teaching and Learning Materials Package and other key documents produced in Khmer under the STEPCam programme. 5\) Prepare minutes of meetings of STEPCam team and meetings with partners 6\) Assist Project team in organizing electronic copies of key documents produced under STEPCam 7\) Provide input on presentations and reports related to the programme implementation 8\) Drafting articles, blogs, and other communications materials in Khmer for websites, newspapers and social media to increase the visibility of projects and programmes. Work closely with the Education Analyst in the development of human interest stories to showcase STEPCam results. 9\) Carry out any other tasks assigned by STEPCam Programme Manager, Project Officer or Chief of Education Unit to support the overall implementation of programme activities The Intern is expected to work collaboratively with staff in STEPCam team. The intern is expected to go to field missions in provinces to support STEPCam team in implementing activities in provinces. Long Description ---------------- Long Description ---------------- **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Required qualifications and experience** **Education:** • Completion of Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in education, communication, public policy, foreign language, or other social science field related to education prior to commencing the internship; or • Proof of enrolment in a graduate programme (Master’s degree or equivalent, or higher) at the time of application **Work Experience:** • Keen interest in various aspects of education; proven ability to work efficiently, under pressure and in a multi-cultural environment. • Ability to translate text from Khmer to English, and vice-versa • Basic knowledge of education priorities in the areas of primary education and teacher education in Cambodia, especially teaching methodology **Skills and Competencies:** • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and ability to type in both English and Khmer • Ability to respect tight deadlines and deliver at the standards required. • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, and to maintain effective working relationships with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written, including good organizational and management skills. **Languages:** Excellent knowledge of Khmer and English (written and spoken). **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- **Contract duration, location, and other conditions** The duration of the contract will be for a period of 6 months of full-time work. The Intern will be based in UNESCO’s Phnom Penh office, with travel to field missions as required. **Fees** UNESCO does not remunerate interns. There is no compensation, financial or otherwise, for internship assignments.
