Background

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

DRC UN Women country office oversees the Secretariat of the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF). This fund, established at the global level in 2016, has the overall objective of achieving peaceful and gender-equal societies. Achieving this goal requires that women are empowered to participate in, contribute to and benefit from conflict prevention, crisis response, peacebuilding and recovery. The Fund aims to achieve these results through the mobilization of civil society organizations, especially women’s associations, for an effective gender mainstreaming in humanitarian and peacebuilding actions.

During 2019, 2 calls for proposals have been launched targeting civil society organizations led by women and contributing to the following specific objectives:

• Women and girls affected by crises participate in and benefit from humanitarian response

• The human rights, safety and security of women and girls are improved

• The socio-economic recovery of women is promoted in post-conflict situations

Today, the WPHF has 6 active projects in 6 Provinces of the DRC (South Kivu, North Kivu, Ituri, Tanganyika, Maniema and Equateur). 11 new projects have recently been approved, expanding the areas of intervention to the Provinces of Kasai, Central Kasai, Eastern Kasai, Mai Ndombe and Kinshasa.

With the objective to strengthening the partnership with civil society organizations led by women WPHF recipients and to ensure effective monitoring of project activities, UN Women is recruiting a national intern.
