Caregivers crucial role in parenting is reconfirmed during COVID-19 pandemic. Caregivers need increased support and resources on parenting to perform their role, particularly in current context where children are spending more time at home. The parenting resources developed with support from the consultant will be widely utilized for supporting caregivers in Nepal.

Specific Tasks:

The overall objective of the consultancy is to provide technical support to the government to revise existing parenting education package developed and utilized by Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) with support from UNICEF and support other initiative on parenting by UNICEF Nepal.

In accordance with established UNICEF policies, procedures and practice, the consultant will perform the following duties:

  1. Review existing parenting education package, KAP study, other relevant literature

  2. Consult with relevant UNICEF sections, field offices, partners and various ministries on gaps in current parenting education package

  3. Revise/update current parenting education package content in coordination with CEHRD

  4. Provide master training of trainers to relevant stakeholders as per discussion with CEHRD

  5. Develop at least one content (detail write-up) monthly for UNICEF parenting website and prepare at least one print material (summarized visual) monthly on parenting targeting caregivers

  6. Provide technical contents for multi-media products (audio video) on parenting

  7. Coordinate and conduct monthly webinar on relevant issues on parenting for internal UNICEF and external audiences

  8. Develop detail engagement strategy of UNICEF Nepal on parenting in coordination with C4D section

Duration of the contract:

The total duration of the consultancy is 11 months tentatively starting from 01 September 2021.

Duty Station: Kathmandu, Work from home.

Deliverables for this Assignment:

- Submission of inception report on changes required on updating parenting education package based on literature review, consultation with sections, field offices, partners and government stakeholders

  • Submission of at least 4 contents developed for UNICEF parenting website (Detail writeup and summarized visual)

  • Submission of report on 4 webinars on parenting

  • Submission of 4 technical content on multi-media package on parenting

December 2021 - Submission of draft edits on parenting education package

  • Submission of at least 4 contents (cumulatively 8) developed for UNICEF parenting website (Detail writeup and summary visual)

  • Submission of report on 4 webinars (cumulatively 8) on parenting

  • Submission of 4 technical content(cumulatively 8) for multi-media package on parenting

April 2022 - Submission of final parenting education package (proofread)

  • Submission of master training of trainers report

  • Submission of detail engagement strategy of UNICEF Nepal on parenting

  • Submission of at least 4 contents (cumulatively 12) developed for UNICEF parenting website

  • Submission of report on 4 webinars (cumulatively 12) on parenting

  • Submission of 4 technical content(cumulatively 12) for multi-media package on parenting

July 2022 To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education: Advanced university degree in Education or social sciences or discipline relevant to Early Childhood Development

    Work Experience: At least 10 years’ experience in areas related to parenting education/ early childhood development.

    Special skills: Good linkages and coordination skills with government counterparts.

    • List any special skills and/or knowledge required: Good understanding of nurturing care framework, particularly early stimulation. Nepali typing.

    Competencies:

    • Demonstrated knowledge and thorough understanding on parenting education and programmes;

    • Strong analytical capacity and ability to quickly comprehend concepts and apply them in operational settings;

    • Ability to build strong relationships with external actors;

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

    • Excellent coordination and communication skills
