Organizational Setting
The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.
The Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project of FAO aims to address the issues of sustainable agricultural development for improved food security and nutrition situations of the Bangladesh through ddeveloping of national food safety indicators for priority identification and proposal formulation in the area of food safety.
Reporting Lines
The national specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), and keeping close liaison with partner organization(s) of both public, private or development organization or its representation or with field staff posted any Upazila or District of Bangladesh will support implementation project activities.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and maintain liaison among FAO, BFSA, DGHS, BSTI, DOF, DLS etc. as and when required for smooth implementation of the project.
- Lead and coordinate activities of Technical Working Groups on FSIs.
- Provide support to organize technical workshops and meetings and prepare reports.
- Participate in local forum(s) related to the project activities and livestock and fishery sector and report back to FAO country office.
- Contribute to development of national FSIs by consultation with stakeholders.
- Contribute to preparation of work plan and budget
- Responsible for monitoring project implementation by using logical framework with impact pathways and measurable indicators.
- Assist, coordinate and support missions as and when required.
- Prepare project briefs and reports- monthly, half-yearly, annual, terminal etc. as and when required.
- Submit end of assignment report of the consultancy.
- Any other task assigned by the FAO Representative/Assistant FAO Representative (Programme).

Technical/Functional Skills
- Technical food security expertise or experience managing food safety and quality activities, international exposure in this area will and added advantage to Bangladesh experince.
- Familiar with dealing with different stakeholder involvement (Government, Non-Government, Private Sector, etc.)
- Technical experience related to food safety and nutrition.
- Demonstrated innovative thinking and practical execution;
- Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
- Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and verbal) and local dialect is preferred.
